摘要： The lathe provided in accordance with the invention is designed to address the needs of today's bowl and spindle turners. In an exemplary embodiment, the lathe of the invention comes equipped with a 2 hp DC Baldor motor and a state-of-the-art 3 hp Minarik pulse-width modulated (PWM) motor drive. It has a continuous power rating of 2 hp and an effective intermittent power rating of nearly 3 hp. The lathe has three speed ranges: 0 to 600 rpm for large bowl turning, 0 to 1200 rpm for standard bowl turning and 0 to 2000 for high-speed bowl turning and finishing. A number of accessory bed extensions are available along with an outboard tool rest and tailstock.

The bed may include two tubular members separated by spacers. The tubular members may have cross-sections that increase stiffness. In another embodiment, the bed is attached to a support assembly that includes first and second hollow legs, which may also contain weight-enhancing ballast. The first leg may be attached to a first hollow foot and the second leg may be attached to a second hollow foot. A stabilizer bar may be inserted in each foot for increased stability. Pairs of wheel assemblies may be attached to the first and second feet. In yet another embodiment, the lathe includes a headstock having a housing slidable along the bed. The housing encloses a motor that drives a shaft having two spindle ends protruding from the housing.

摘要： A cutting insert which includes a holder that contains a pocket and a hard insert that has a rake surface. The hard insert is contained within the pocket so as to present a cutting edge. The cutting insert also includes a chipbreaker which comprises a plate with a bottom surface. The chipbreaker is attached to the cutting insert (or optionally to the holder) so that the plate is spaced above the rake surface of the hard insert a first distance forming a conduit for passage of the chips away from the cutting insert. The conduit is defined at least in part by the rake surface of the cutting insert and the bottom surface of the chipbreaker plate.
