    • The invention relates to a multiple cutting edge rotary tool having a radial individual adjustment of each cutting edge or having a central adjustment for all cutting edges together. The multiple cutting edge rotary tool used for machining has a number of holders that have, in the front part, cavities for accommodating cutting plates and have, in the area between their ends, a hole for passing through a fixing device with which each holder can be fixed to a support. The holder, on its portion that supports the cutting plate, can be elastically deflected in relation to a support by means of an adjusting device. In addition, the holder is provided with an opening and forms a parallel spiral spring arrangement whereby the cutting plate, during its adjustment, is essentially subjected to a parallel displacement with regard to the cutting edge. The adjusting device is provided in the form of a central adjusting screw which, as an axially adjustable differential screw, retains, by means of a lifting motion of the differential screw, the holder in a manner that permits it to be radially displaced in relation to its support and without play. The retention of said holder is effected by adjustable pressure pieces that are supported on parts of the adjusting screw.

    • An ultra-precision sub-micron boring tool and pre-setting system for finishing through bores or blind bores is disclosed. The system includes a cylindrical cartridge having an internal hollow portion, a first through bore located in the hollow portion, and a toothed segment lodged in the first through bore. The toothed segment and a micrometric screw, which passes through an axial bore in the toothed segment, are arranged on a common geometric axis. A bushing having an internal thread is located in the interior of the axial bore so that the micrometric screw engages with the internal thread. The system also includes a hollow stud which lodges and retains the bushing, a set of rings which carry and envelope the micrometric screw so that the micrometric screw is supported by the set of rings in relation to the cylindrical cartridge, a locknut, a graduated dial attached to an end of the micrometric screw through the locknut, and a second through bore located in the cylindrical cartridge. The second through bore is arranged substantially in a right angle plane which may be inclined in relation to the first through bore. A tool tip is located on a tool shank lodged in the second through bore. Further, the system has a backlash suppression system located in the second through bore and between the tool shank and the toothed segment in the first through bore.

    • A machine adjustable boring bar assembly is disclosed for use with a rotatable spindle of a machine tool which accepts interchangeable tools. This assembly includes an elongated boring bar body interchangeably mounted in a rotatable machine tool spindle and with a transversely movable tool mount on the distal end of the boring bar body. First and second external sleeves are rotatably mounted on the body with a motion transmission connection between the sleeves and a tool mount to establish transverse tool adjustment upon selectively holding stationary or rotating in selected directions the two sleeves by means of pinion reaction members driven by motors. The motion transmission connection includes planetary gearing for a wide range of rates of radial motion of the tool mount so that this adjustment may be effected during the time when the boring bar assembly is mounted in the rotatable machine tool spindle and actually cutting a workpiece for step turning, undercutting, or taper cutting.     • A system is disclosed for automatic radial adjustment of a boring tool in a machine tool spindle to accurately size a bore in a workpiece within extremely close tolerances over a wide range of bore sizes. The system includes a boring tool mounting a toolholder and cutter and a precision adjusting means for setting the radial position of the cutter, the precision adjusting means including an adjusting wedge housed within said boring bar and being threaded to a precision lead screw which is rotated for axial translation of the adjusting wedge, the wedge and toolholder having intermeshing toothed serrations axially skewed for radial movement of the toolholder in response to axial translation of the adjusting wedge; an adjusting actuator adapted for operative engagement with driver means on said precision lead screw; a probe which measures the size of a preliminary bore in the workpiece; an adjusting control operatively connected to the actuator for altering the radial position of the cutter and toolholder; and means for setting the adjusting control to effect an adjustment in the radial position of the toolholder and cutter by an amount proportional to the deviation between the size of the preliminary bore and the size of the final bore to be generated in the workpiece. The system may be used in any manual or numerically controlled machine capable of performing boring operations.
