    • The present invention relates to the field of doors and more particularly to an automated strike assembly for a sliding door. In particular, it relates to an automatically operable strike, which functions with existing manual latches. When using the automated strike, an engaged latch may be released by automatically sliding the entire strike plate over the latch hook. The automated strike comprises a strike plate adapted to engage with a latch, mounting means for slidably attaching the strike plate to a door jamb and driving means adapted to receive a control signal and to slide the strike plate between a latched position and an unlatched position. The invention also relates to a method for unlatching a door using the automated strike.

    • An improved astragal assembly for double door entryways includes an extruded aluminum frame into which upper and lower flush bolt assemblies are slidably disposed. The flush bolt assemblies include a relatively long metal bolt about which is injection overmolded a series of retainer guides, which ride in the frame. Locking mechanisms are also integrally overmolded onto the bolts. The frame and all components of the astragal assembly are symmetrical and reversible so that the assembly is non-handed; that is, it can be adapted to both a right hand swing and a left-hand swing inactive door. A unique strike plate mounting system and bottom-sealing block are provided and the upper end of the assembly includes means for sealing against the stop of a head jamb. Drafts at the upper and lower inside corners of the doors of a double door entryway are thus prevented.

    • A latch assembly which both selectively latches and accurately positions separable members relative to one another. The latch assembly includes pawls pivotably mounted on a first member, the first member being biased toward a separated position relative to a second member. The pawls, which are biased toward a latched position, are interconnected by a handle for selectively urging the pawls toward an unlatched position. The first member supports guide pins adjacent to the pawls, the guide pins having a positioning flange located thereon. The second member carries latching posts having a recess for receiving the guide pins and a shoulder accurately positionable relative to the second member. The shoulders have oppositely facing surfaces, one surface engageable by the flange of the guide pin and the other by a latching surface of the pawl when the first member is in its latched position. A compression spring located on the guide pins between the flange and the first member urges the members in the direction of separation when the surfaces of the shoulder are engaged by the flange and the latching surface of the pawl to effect positive latching action therebetween.

    • A lock for a sliding door is disclosed which comprises an elongated escutcheon having a slidable latching means. The latching means moves between an "open" and a "locked" position. The escutcheon includes means for releasably retaining the latching means in both of the positions. The latching means includes an elongated slot of a first width having at least one enlarged portion of a second width and a locking mechanism having a bolt which extends through the slot and is rotatably secured to the escutcheon. The portions of the bolt extending through the slot have an irregular periphery so that facing in one direction the thickness of the bolt is greater than the width of the portion of the slot of the first width, yet smaller than the portion of the slot of the second width. When the bolt faces in a position rotated a predetermined angular amount from the position facing in the one direction, the thickness of the bolt is less than the width of the slot of the first width. The slot is enlarged at each end thereof so that the latching means can be locked in both an "open" and "locked" position.
