    • A valve keeper installation device for facilitating installation of valve keepers. The valve keeper installation device includes a pliers member for engaging and compressing valve locks including: a jaw portion for providing a compressive force; a handle portion designed for being grasp by a human hand, and having two opposed members such that squeezing both opposed members towards each other tightens the jaw portion providing a compressive force; and a cup portion integrally coupled to the jaw portion, and designed for engaging a valve keeper, the cup portion includes a first curved member integrally coupled to a first jaw member and a second curved member integrally coupled to a second jaw member, the first and second curved members being positioned such that an longitudinal axis of the cup portion is substantially collinear with a longitudinal axis of the device.

    • The method of facilitating assembly and disassembly of valves in a cylinder head uses a gripping tool which has a base consisting of a flat ring onto which are mounted three posts extending upwardly therefrom. Rotatable and slidable clips with magnets are mounted on at least two of the posts to capture the loose key bolts. A plate is attached to the top of the posts and a clip may extend upwardly therefrom to permit attachment of an adapter for use with a drill press. The flat ring is centered over the top of the valve stem and key bolt and rests on top of the upper cup which presses against the top of the ring which retains the spring. Force applied to the top of the tool presses down on the upper cup, compressing the spring to release the key bolt. For re-assembly, a centering ring holds the spring centered with the cam bucket bore, providing the contact surface for the flat ring. To facilitate transfer of the cylinder head between work stations, an elastic sheet with an opening for each valve stem locks the valves in place before assembly has been completed.

    • This invention relates to a set of tools for removing lugless snap rings from the internal annular grooves provided therefor in parts containing internal bores, these tools consisting of a pointed tool for making an indentation in the base of the groove between the ends of the ring, a plunger-actuated ball magazine for placing a ball in the indentation thus formed preparatory to driving the ring aroung in its groove until one of its ends rides up upon the ball to create a gap therebeneath, a clamping tool for holding the ring in its groove against further relative rotation, a wedge for movement into the gap underneath the raised end of the ring, and a wedge-driving subassembly for moving the wedge into the gap to a point where the raised end of the ring is free of the groove and in position to be grasped and removed. The invention also encompasses the novel method for removing lugless snap rings that includes the steps of making an indentation in the base of the groove between the ends of the ring, inserting a ball in the indentation, rotating the ring within its groove until one of its ends rides up upon the ball creating a gap therebeneath, holding the ring in the groove against further relative rotation, driving a wedge into the gap underneath the ring until the raised end thereof is free of the groove, and pulling upon the end thus freed to remove the ring.

    • A check valve comprises a housing defining a valve seat thereon and a valve member reciprocally mounted in the housing to normally engage the seat for blocking fluid flow therepast. Two pairs of split retaining members are mounted in axially spaced relationship on a stem of the valve member and are expanded axially thereon by a compression coil spring for biasing the valve member to its closed position. A stop member is secured on an end of the stem of the valve member to prevent movement of one pair of the retaining members therepast. A slot is formed axially through the stop member and extends partially in the stem of the valve member to expose an end of the spring.
