    • A guide mechanism for a sliding door of a vehicle includes a wedge with a protruding blade of thickness t fastened to an edge portion of the door, and a guide body fastened to a header of the vehicle. The vehicle header and edge portion of the door are adjacent one another when the door is in a closed position. First and second flexible wings are connected to the guide body forming a pair of wings defining a slot between the first and second wings with the wings separated a minimum distance, .delta..sub.0, across the slot. First and second flanges respectively connected to the first and second wings extend away from one another forming a lead-in channel having a dimension greater than the minimum distance, .delta..sub.0, for guiding the blade to engage the slot when the door is in the closed position. Making the blade thickness, t, greater than the minimum distance, .delta..sub.0, across the slot causes each of the wings to exert pressure on the blade when the blade is positioned dead center so that movement between the door and header can occur without breaking contact between the wings and the blade thereby minimizing rattling and noise.

    • A guide arrangement for a door element (14, 16), particularly a sliding door element for a shower enclosure, includes a guide element (10, 12) at the bottom edge of the door element including a rotatable member (34) engaged with a guide channel (8) of a lower guide rail (2). The guide element can be disengaged from the guide rail, when desired. The rotatable member (34) is at least partially mounted in a transverse hole (35) in a holding body so as to be at least partially rotatable about an axis of rotation extending substantially perpendicular to the plane of the door element (14, 16). The rotatable member is additionally provided with an actuator, preferably in the form of a grip (10). The rotatable member (34) carries a pintle (38) which, depending on its rotational position, either engages the guide rail (2) or is pivoted out of engagement with the guide rail.

    • A sliding door/window track assembly particularly suited for use with thick glass. Fastenable directly to both the upper and lower edges of such glass, the assembly includes a frame member made of plastic. The frame member is suspended between a pair of guides formed within a track member. A plurality of keys, which ride in slots formed in the sides of the guides, are employed not only to suspend the frame member but also to lock it into the track member for security. Moreover, the track member also allows a large amount of foreign material to be deposited along the track before any interference with operation occurs. Further, the track assembly can be fabricated so that only plastic material rubs on plastic when the door/window is slid, thereby allowing for free movement with little friction.

    • A railroad car arranged to transport automobiles comprises a floor, a roof, a pair of spaced side walls, at least one door assembly and means for guiding the door assembly to a position adjacent a side wall to enable loading and unloading of the railroad car. A rail secures the lower end of the door assembly, the rail being positioned along the floor of the railroad car. Extensions are attached to the door assembly and are in sliding engagement with the rail. The rail has two interrupted portions through which the tires of an automobile will pass during loading and unloading. The extensions attached to the door assembly are aligned onto the rail after passing through the interrupted portions during opening and closing by a pair of rail segments. The rail segments are spaced at an angle towards the rail and away from the interrupted portions and are attached to the floor at both ends of each interrupted portion. The door assemblies, when in the closed position, are secured at the inerrupted portions by a pin or metal wedge, a correspondingly sized aperture or slit, and means for effecting relative movement therebetween.
