    • An efficient kinetoelectric transducer is provided for use in a phonograph playback system. The transducer is positioned in the forward end portion of the pickup arm and includes a first electrode, an electret member oriented contiguous to the first electrode, and a second electrode juxtapositionally oriented relative to the side of the electret opposite that of the first electrode. The second electrode, which has a stylus support means attached thereto, is oriented to facilitate a degree of controlled vibratory movement relative to the electret member. A holding means retains the electrodes and intermediate electret member to effect a unitized transducer structure from which the stylus support member protrudes.

    • A phonograph pickup cartridge which has a stylus with a pair of driving arms engageable with the ends of a pair of tapered flexible members and formed with tapered openings therein so that the movement of the stylus moves the flexible members and causes the volume of the air chambers therein to vary. A pair of electrostatic transducers are coupled to the cavities of the flexible members and have diaphragms which vary with variations in volume of the flexible members so as to produce audio output signals.

    • An electret transducer is described which includes an electret formed from a relatively thin elongated body of electrically insulating dielectric material which is polarized for establishing a residual electrostatic field within the body. First and second relatively thin elongated bodies of electrically conductive material are positioned adjacent opposite surfaces of the electret body and extend substantially coextensively with the electret body. The conductive bodies thereby sandwich the electret and provide electrodes for the transducer. This sandwich configuration is formed into a convolute shaped transducer assembly and includes electrical conductors which are coupled to each of the electrodes and between which a transducer output signal is provided upon mechanical excitation of the convolute shaped transducer assembly. The transducer thus provided comprises a displacement transducer which advantageously can be employed in acoustical detection and reproduction systems.
