    • An image reader includes a first line sensor that reads first image lines of an original document; a second line sensor that reads second image lines of the original document, the second image lines being located apart from the first image lines in a sub-scanning direction, respectively; and a control unit configured to, in the case where an abnormality occurs during reading of a first image line by the first line sensor, alternately switch reading of the first image lines by the first line sensor and reading of the second image lines by the second line sensor at a time point when a reading position of the second line sensor reaches a reading stop position of the first line sensor at which the abnormality has occurred.

    • A duplex document scanning apparatus and method thereof are described. The duplex document scanning apparatus includes a first image sensor, a second image sensor, a switch module, a data conversion unit, and a scanning control device. The first image sensor senses the first analog image signal and the second image sensor senses the second analog image signal. The switch module switches the first image sensor and the second image sensor to select the first analog image signal and the second analog image signal. The data conversion unit converts the first and second analog image signals to generate first and second digital image signals. The switch control module of scanning control device generates a switch signal to control the switch module. The scanning control device has a switch control unit and processes the first digital image signal and a second digital image signal. The switch control unit generates a switch signal for controlling the switch module and the switch module simultaneously outputs the first analog image signal and the second analog image signal to the data conversion unit during a signal period of the switch signal.

    • Image-capturing apparatus meeting demands for high-image resolution and high-speed data capture during both still- and moving-document data-capture modes. Includes: a reading unit having first and second linear photoreceptors arrayed along an data capture sub-scanning direction, a delay circuit delaying output from the first photoreceptor, and an adding circuit adding delayed first-photoreceptor output to second-photoreceptor output; and a scanning unit illuminating from underneath the platen, and shiftable along it to guide linear reflected light from a document to the first and second photoreceptors. During a moving-document data-capture mode, the scanning unit is disposed in a data-capture position established at one edge of the platen to scan a document being conveyed, and when in a still-original data-capture mode, it is shifted from along the platen's opposite edge toward the one edge thereof to scan a stationary document.

    • An image reading apparatus includes image sensor chips and control chips for controlling the operation of the image sensor chips. Each image sensor chip, including a plurality of photoelectric converters, performs the outputting and resetting of accumulated electric charge due to light detection.
