    • Mitigating glare in connection with photographing a document using a camera includes assessing a first amount of glare that would result if a user were to take a snapshot at a first camera position and lighting conditions, if the first amount of glare is below a predetermined threshold, taking a snapshot with the camera, and, if the first amount of glare is above the predetermined threshold, continuously prompting the user to adjust a position of the camera and taking the snapshot when the camera is in a second position and a second amount of glare, different from the first amount of glare, is below the predetermined threshold. The lighting conditions may include effects of external lighting sources. The user may adjust the external lighting sources before taking the snapshot. The lighting conditions may include effects of an internal light source of the camera.

    • A system including a Multi Function Printer/Product/Peripheral (MFP) and a portable computing device adapted to allow automatic copying of documents by the MFP from the portable computing device. The portable computing device includes a display, a plurality of sensors for detecting light, a light detection module and a page changing module. The sensors are positioned to detect light from the MFP and trigger a page change automatically. The MFP in accordance with the present invention includes a scanner with a platen, a page change detection module, an image processing module, a device identification module, and a document matching & retrieval module. The page change detection module is adapted to receive the images presented by the portable computing device on the platen of the scanner for copying. The page change detection module detects changes and causes the MFP to scan and output a copy. The MFP may also use image processing techniques to locate an original version of the document on a server and print that higher quality document, instead of the scan from the portable computing device.

    • An image-reading device includes a document-supporting base, a document-pressing member, a reading unit, a controlling unit, and a determining unit The document-supporting base has a transparent member on which a document is placed. The document-pressing member is disposed on the document-supporting base so as to cover the transparent member. The document-pressing member is capable of opening and closing on the document-supporting base. The reading unit has a light source and capable of reading an image from the document placed on the transparent member while the light source irradiates light on the document.
