摘要： An image scanning apparatus comprises a pair of regulating members that regulates a position of the document sheet stacked on a stacking unit, at least one of the regulating members being movable in a width direction; and units that detects a length in the width direction between the regulating members, and detects the width of the document sheet conveyed by a conveyance unit; wherein in a case where a difference between the detected length and the detected width of a document sheet is smaller than a threshold, a first sheet-to-sheet interval is set, and in a case where the difference between the detected length and the detected width of the document sheet is larger than the threshold, a second sheet-to-sheet interval which is larger than the first sheet-to-sheet interval is set.

摘要： An image reading device includes: a platen on which a document is placed; a platen cover openable and closable with respect to the platen; a cover-open sensor which detects a fact that the open/close angle of the platen cover has passed a predetermined angle from a close state; a CCD line sensor including charge coupled devices (CCD) arranged for recording a variation in distribution for a fixed period of time of incident light when detecting passing of the platen cover; a variation amount calculator which calculates a variation amount of incident light at each distribution point on the basis of a variation in distribution recorded by the CCD line sensor; and a variation amount determination unit which determines whether or not a variation amount calculated by the variation amount calculator exceeds a predetermined threshold.

The controller is configured to further move the reading location from the second position to the first position, and detect an instruction to continue reading a subsequent original during a period before the reading location reaches the third position. When the instruction is detected, the controller stops moving the reading location when it reaches the third position.

摘要： Documents in a large-format scanning system are scanned by coarsely recognizing longitudinal or transverse transition regions between a reflector roller and a document by the substeps of dividing the scanning image transversely into uniform image strips, determining statistical parameters for each image strip, examining the scanning image in the image strips with fixed threshold values for deviations such that, if a value of one the statistical parameters of an image strip exceeds the threshold value, this region is recognized as being a transverse transition region between the reflector roller and the document, and examining the image strips to determine the longitudinal transition region by line-by-line generation of an average value and determining sufficiently strong and steep edges, the image strips being rotated incrementally from the transverse of the document to an acute angle. Then longitudinal or transverse document edges within the transition regions detected by coarse recognition are finely recognized.
