    • A transconductance cell is disclosed that includes a first transistor and a second transistor. A regulator regulates an average voltage in response to a reference voltage, where the average voltage corresponds to the average of a voltage at a bias terminal of the first transistor and a voltage at a bias terminal of the second transistor. A mixer including the transconductance cell is also disclosed. In the mixer, the transconductance cell receives a differential input voltage and produces a differential output current. The mixer also includes one or more switches that multiply the differential output current with an oscillator signal. A method is disclosed that includes measuring an average voltage of a voltage at a bias terminal of a first transistor and a voltage at a bias terminal of a second transistor and regulating the average voltage responsive to the measured average voltage and a reference voltage.

    • A differential amplifier circuit has two input transistors, a load element, and a current source. A terminal for an input voltage is connected to a control terminal of a first input transistor. A terminal for a reference voltage is connected to a control terminal of a second input transistor. The two input transistors are connected in parallel between the load element and a terminal of the current source. A terminal for an internal reference potential is connected to a further terminal of the current source. A regulating circuit, is connected to the terminal for the voltage and to the terminal for the reference potential, and regulates the potential of the circuit dependent on changes in the reference voltage. Fluctuations of the reference voltage are compensated by regulation of the internal reference potential. As a result, the operating point of the circuit is stabilized independently of fluctuations of the reference voltage.

    • A data receiver circuit having a comparator that exhibits substantially variable offset that is controllable to represent a variable reference level, without a separate input to receive a reference voltage level. The comparator output provides an indication of the comparison between a fixed voltage level applied to its differential signal input and the variable reference level. While changing an offset code that is fed to an offset control input of the comparator, and while applying a fixed voltage level that represents a symbol in the transmission line analog signal, a value of the offset code which causes the output of the comparator to change states is captured. A similar process may be repeated for different symbol values that can be transmitted, such that an indication of the voltage margin may be obtained as a difference between two captured offset codes. Circuitry to perform the process may be provided on-chip to the receiver circuit.
