摘要： A variable gain amplifier (VGA) circuit and an automatic gain control (AGC) method thereof are disclosed. The VGA circuit includes an amplifier circuit and an AGC circuit. The amplifier circuit amplifies an input signal to an output signal according to a predetermined gain and the AGC circuit is connected to the amplifier circuit for regulating the predetermined gain. The AGC circuit further includes a peak detector detecting a peak of the output signal, a replica of the peak detector for detecting a peak of a reference signal, and a comparator for comparing the peak of the output signal with the peak of the reference signal to provide a control signal and then providing the control signal to the amplifier circuit to regulate the predetermined gain.

摘要： A variable-gain BiCMOS transconductance amplifier (VGA). An NMOS differential pair amplifier with bipolar cascoding provides continuous gain control by adjustment of drain-source voltage to shift the NMOS differential pair from a saturation region operation and high gain to a triode operation and low gain. A simple control circuit is used in order to generate the desired exponential gain to linear control voltage characteristic that is stable over temperature and process. The shift from saturation to triode operation of the input NMOS differential pair simultaneously increases the input linearity as the gain is reduced.

摘要： A current feed-back instrumentation amplifier (CFIA) comprises a differential pair with degeneration for amplifying small differential voltages in the presence of large common-mode voltages. The CFIA includes input and feedback transconductors and a trimming circuit that trims the back-bias voltages of the transistors in each transconductor. The trimming circuit includes a plurality of selectable resistors disposed in the signal path of the tail current in each transconductor. Each of the plurality of selectable resistors has a switch coupled to it. When a switch is closed, only the resistors up to the respective switch are in the signal path of the bulk-to-source voltage of the differentially paired transistors. The resistor trimming circuit reduces the mismatch between transconductances of the respective differential pair transistors, in turn reducing mismatch of the overall transconductances of the transconductors, and thereby reducing the CFIA's gain error.

A mixer including the transconductance cell is also disclosed. In the mixer, the transconductance cell receives a differential input voltage and produces a differential output current. The mixer also includes one or more switches that multiply the differential output current with an oscillator signal. A method is disclosed that includes measuring an average voltage of a voltage at a bias terminal of a first transistor and a voltage at a bias terminal of a second transistor and regulating the average voltage responsive to the measured average voltage and a reference voltage.

摘要： A differential amplifier circuit has two input transistors, a load element, and a current source. A terminal for an input voltage is connected to a control terminal of a first input transistor. A terminal for a reference voltage is connected to a control terminal of a second input transistor. The two input transistors are connected in parallel between the load element and a terminal of the current source. A terminal for an internal reference potential is connected to a further terminal of the current source. A regulating circuit, is connected to the terminal for the voltage and to the terminal for the reference potential, and regulates the potential of the circuit dependent on changes in the reference voltage. Fluctuations of the reference voltage are compensated by regulation of the internal reference potential. As a result, the operating point of the circuit is stabilized independently of fluctuations of the reference voltage.

摘要： A data receiver circuit having a comparator that exhibits substantially variable offset that is controllable to represent a variable reference level, without a separate input to receive a reference voltage level. The comparator output provides an indication of the comparison between a fixed voltage level applied to its differential signal input and the variable reference level. While changing an offset code that is fed to an offset control input of the comparator, and while applying a fixed voltage level that represents a symbol in the transmission line analog signal, a value of the offset code which causes the output of the comparator to change states is captured. A similar process may be repeated for different symbol values that can be transmitted, such that an indication of the voltage margin may be obtained as a difference between two captured offset codes. Circuitry to perform the process may be provided on-chip to the receiver circuit.
