    • A triple-mode filter is disclosed, the triple-mode filter including a cavity for confining electromagnetic waves and a metallic block acting as a resonator within that cavity. The metallic block does not contact the conductive walls of the cavity, but is instead suspended by a support element. Triple-mode resonators may be combined to produce bandpass filters having three or more poles. In other configurations, triple-mode cavity metallic resonators may be coupled to triple-mode cavity ceramic resonators or to combline resonators to achieve various filtering functions and performances suitable for different applications.

    • The present invention relates to a device at filters for filtering unwanted signals from radio transmitters and/or for use during combination of radio transmitters. Said filter (1) has at least one cavity (2 and/or 3) for filtering radio signals. At least one compensating means (13 and/or 16) is provided to compensate for deviations in frequency depending on expansion or contraction of the cavity (2 and/or 3) due to expansion or contraction of the filter (1) when said filter is heated or cooled during operation. The filter (1) has at least one cavity (2 and/or 3) which is designed for simultaneous filtering of radio signals of at least three different modes (A, B and C and/or D, E and F) and the same frequency. The compensating means (13 and/or 16) is provided in said cavity (2 and/or 3) for compensating deviations in frequency by simultaneously affecting the radio signals of the at least three different modes (A, B and C and/or D, E and F).

    • A quadruple mode bandpass filter has at least one cavity resonating in four independent orthogonal modes simultaneously. Preferably, the filter has two cavities, one cavity being a quadruple mode cavity and the remaining cavity being either a single mode, dual mode, triple mode or quadruple mode cavity. By introducing a resonant feedback coupling into filters of the present invention, the number of transmission zeros produced by the filter is equal to the order of the filter. Previous filters have cavities resonating in either a single, dual or triple mode and the maximum number of transmission zeros is equal to the order of the filter minus two.

    • A microwave multiplexer has a set of independently tuneable signal channels coupled to a common waveguide. Each of the channels has input and output 3 dB couplers which are joined by cylindrical radiators carrying circularly polarized waves. Both TE and TM waves are propagated within a plurality of resonant cavities within each of the filters. Coupling between the cavities is provided by an array of slots and an array of probes wherein the slots couple TE waves and the probes couple TM waves. Adjustment of the slots and the probes provides for independent coupling coefficients for the two propagation modes. A set of coaxial line probe structures connect between the input and output couplers to end cavities of a filter for the launching of TM waves, there being discs in the end cavities adjacent the probes for converting energy of a TM wave to a TE wave, thereby providing both the TM and the TE wave propagation. There results a greater versatility in the coupling allowing for greater compaction of signal channel with reduced weight and bulk to the multiplexer.

    • A multiplexer has a plurality of bandpass filters coupled through E-plane or H-plane T-junctions to a waveguide manifold. Where the multiplexer has four channels and each filter is a six-pole filter, two triple mode cavities make up each filter. Where each filter is a five-pole filter, one triple cavity and one dual mode cavity makes up each filter. Two band edge channel filters are operated to produce an asymmetrical filter function response, thereby causing extra transmission zeros to be created and improving the selectivity of the filter out of the passband. The multiplexer is designed for use in satellite communication systems and can have a reduced volume and weight when compared to previous multiplexers without any sacrifice in electrical performance.
