    • A circuit interruption device includes a main branch; a secondary branch having an electrical on-resistance which is higher than an electrical on-resistance of the main branch; and first and second terminals for connection to an electrical network, the main and secondary branches extending between the first and second terminals. The main branch includes a switching apparatus which is switchable to selectively allow current to flow in the main branch in a normal mode of operation or commutate current from the main branch to the secondary branch in a fault mode of operation. The secondary branch includes a switching device, the switching device including a normally-on switching element. The secondary branch further includes a control unit in communication with the normally-on switching element. The secondary branch further includes a power extraction circuit which is electrically coupled with the control unit. During the normal mode of operation the normally-on switching element is in an on-state to permit the secondary branch to conduct current, and during the fault mode of operation the control unit controls the switching of the or each normally-on switching element to an off-state to inhibit current flow in the secondary branch.

    • A tap changer with semiconductor switching elements for uninterrupted switching between winding taps of a tapped transformer has two load branches connected with the winding taps of the tapped transformer and that each comprise a respective mechanical main contact that in stationary operation conducts current of the respective load branch and produces an electrical connection with a load shunt. Each load branch also has parallel to the respective main contact a series circuit consisting of a further respective mechanical contact as well as a respective semiconductor switch. These semiconductor switches are electrically connected together at a side remote from the respective contacts and lead to a mechanical transfer contact whose other side is connected with the load shunt. A connection of the main contacts as well as the further mechanical contacts is effected by a movable contact support.

    • A hybrid switch circuit includes a hybrid switch that couples an input conductor connected to an AC power supply to an output conductor connected to a load. The hybrid switch includes a power semiconductor in parallel with an electromagnetic relay. A control circuit turns on the hybrid switch by turning on the power semiconductor at a zero-voltage crossing of the AC voltage to provide a conductive path and then closing the relay to provide a conductive bypass path that bypasses the power semiconductor. The control circuit turns off the hybrid switch by opening the relay and subsequently turning off the power semiconductor at a zero crossing of the load current. The control circuit operates in response to a hybrid switch control signal that indicates whether an operating fault condition exists.
