    • An electromechanical program timer provides at least a section with a slower timing speed besides a major timing speed. The timer includes a driving motor rotationally drives a driving shaft. A driving gear and an eccentric shaft are formed on the driving shaft for driving a cam disk through a main driven gear and via a pushing pawl to a driven ratchet respectively. The main driven gear includes at least a missing gear portion where the driving gear is free from driving the main driven gear, and the pushing pawl and the driven ratchet take place. The driving shaft engages and rotates the cam disk through the main driven gear in a major timing speed. While at the missing gear portion, the eccentric shaft oscillates the pushing pawl and drives the cam disk through the driven ratchet step by step in a reduced timing speed.

    • A delay arrangement for a program timer having a rotatable timing cam member (monoblock) including a delay ratchet wheel having a pin which engages an abutment inside the monoblock at one relative position of the delay ratchet to the monoblock. The monoblock ratchet ring has a gap at the desired delay position so that when the delay ratchet wheel is set to a desired delay, and the drive pawl is at the delay position, the drive pawl extends into the gap to only move the delay ratchet wheel until the pin engages the monoblock. The monoblock is then advanced along with the delay ratchet wheel until such time as the gap in the monoblock ratchet ring has advanced past the drive pawl. From then on, the regular monoblock advance takes over.

    • A sequential ratchet drive for an appliance timing cam is disclosed. The drive includes a pawl adapted to drive ratchet teeth located on the periphery of a main program cam in a step-by-step manner. The pawl is driven and guided by cams against and with the bias of springs in an initial tangential drive path in driving engagement with a ratchet tooth. The cams guide the pawl out of engagement with the driven tooth in a curvilinear retraction path with the bias of a first spring and against the bias of a second spring to a raised location and then the pawl is returned to its initial driving position by the bias of both springs. A portion of the path of travel of the pawl from its raised location to its initial position may be defined by a portion of a ratchet tooth so that the retraction path of the pawl may adapt itself to a variety of varying tooth spacings.

    • A control system and programmer/timer for a microwave oven having a program cam advanced by a pawl-stepped ratchet wheel having three toothed segments, each with teeth of differing root diameter. The outer teeth provide rapid expanded scale advancement for the terminal five minutes of the cooking program and also for selected programs of five minutes or less for high-resolution switching by the program cam. The segment of teeth of intermediate root diameter provides a compressed scale slower cam advance rate for "COOK" programs of 5-35 minutes. The segment of teeth of lowest root diameter provides slow rate cam advancement for auxiliary "DELAYED START" and KEEP-WARM functions where time accuracy is not critical. The programmer/timer enables continued advancement of the program cam after time-out of the cooking program where the KEEP-WARM mode has been preselected.

    • A timing control system and timer sub-assembly for microwave cooking source parallel connected with a timer and series connected with an interval time switch and a defrost cycle switch and a power level selector. The timer is operable to cycle the defrost switch at a fast rate for selected operating timer intervals of a given value or greater and a slow rate for selected interval less than the given value. The timer provides progressively decreasing "on" time of the defrost cycle switch for each cycle. The timer sub-assembly has a pawl-driven ratchet wheel having a toothed sector of lesser pitch diameter and a masking ratchet wheel having periodic deep notches spaced thereabout for permitting the drive pawl to periodically engage the teeth lesser pitch diameter for slower advance of the driven ratchet wheel for indexing a plurality of rotary cam tracks for microwave sources switch actuation.

    • The impulse drive mechanism has a drive pawl which is periodically retracted sufficiently to engage a tooth at maximum tooth spacing to advance the sequence control cam a maximum step. If a lesser step is desired (can be used) the ratchet tooth spacing is decreased and the masking device which incorporates a follower engaging the cam on the inside of the ratchet is moved into position to prevent engagement of the pawl with a tooth at greater spacing. The cam drum can be advanced in small angular increments when only tolling time and the angular increment can be increased to accomodate sequential switching during the advance step if required.
