    • A custom prototype membrane switch panel, kit, and method for construction. Two membranes, an insulative spacer for use therebetween, and a plurality of conductive elements disposable between each membrane and spacer are provided. Spacer apertures in registry with the elements permit electrical contact therebetween upon displacement of one membrane toward the other. The elements are comprised of conductive ink bonded to an insulated backing in any desired geometric shape or shapes, and may be provided individually or plurally in sheet form separable therefrom for disposition between the spacer and membranes. Elements of different colors facilitate tracing different conductive paths created thereby in the resultant switch panel, and the backing automatically electrically insulates crossovers between the elements. One or more of the membranes or spacer has features, alone or in combination, of transparency, having a graphic grid network superimposed thereon, or being hingable to one or more remaining membrane or spacer, facilitating aforementioned registration.

    • An operation switch having an operation surface with a specified pattern printed thereon and covered with a soft-feeling layer of paint, which can obtain the increased durability of adhesion between the pattern-printed surface and the soft-feeling coat of paint by adopting a simple technical means and can withstand repeated finger-pressing operations for a long period of service life without stripping the soft-feeling layer from the pattern-printed surface. This is achieved by first printing a specified pattern on the operation substrate surface of the switch by using siliconeless ink or a two-component isocyanate setting type urethane ink and then covering the pattern-printed surface with a coat of a transparent or semitransparent soft paint or by first coating and then printing.

    • The subject matter of this invention relates to a membrane switch having a base sheet with a plurality of conductors on one surface of the sheet. A spacer sheet is adhesively secured to the base sheet on the surface having the plurality of conductors. The spacer sheet has a plurality of apertures, which apertures are aligned with selected portions of the conductors. A flexible cover sheet is adhesively secured to the spacer sheet. The flexible cover sheet has a second plurality of flexible conductors on its surface adjacent to the spacer sheet. The flexible conductors have selected portions aligned with respective apertures. Each of the flexible conductors has a thickness no greater than 0.0025 mil. The flexible cover sheet is positionable through a selected aperture with a portion of the flexible conductor to contact electrically the respective conductor on the base sheet aligned with that aperture.

    • The invention is directed to a membrane switch comprising a first layer 30 of flexible insulating material and a second layer 50 having relatively inflexible characteristics, each layer 30, 50 having an array of conductors 40, 54 disposed thereon and defining a plurality of switch point areas over a substantial portion of the respective layers. The first sheet is transparent and carries visible symbols on the inner surface thereof formed by a first layer 36 of inks printed thereon and further includes a barrier coating over such symbols to provide contrast therefore. The first array 40 of conductors is printed on the barrier coating. The second array 54 of conductors is printed on the inflexible layer. The first and second arrays 40, 54 of conductors are connected to respective voltage sources, preferably by further arrays of conductors 42, 56 disposed over at least portions of the first and second arrays, 40, 54 the further arrays 42, 56 being of a material having a higher conductivity than the material used for the first and second arrays 40, 54. Spacer means 58 for the switch is formed by printing an array of spaced apart dots of a dielectric and insulating coating on top of at least one of the arrays of conductors in the defined switch point areas to hold the switch point areas normally apart until pressure is placed thereupon to deform the first sheet 30 and effect a switch closure between corresponding switch point areas of the arrays 40, 54. A method for making the switch is also disclosed.
