    • A high-voltage variable resistor capable of electrically connecting a connection electrode on a circuit board and a terminal fitment to each other without using any conductive rubber or soldering. A terminal fitment which is electrically connected to a connection electrode on a circuit board without soldering is arranged between a front surface of the circuit board and an inner surface of an insulating casing. The terminal fitment is provided with a connection conductor holding section including a plurality of edges biting into an end of a connection conductor inserted into the insulating casing via each of through-holes of the insulating casing when a force in a direction of drawing the connection conductor out of the connection conductor holding section is applied to the connection conductor. The terminal fitment is integrally provided with a contact terminal section exhibiting elasticity. The contact terminal section has a contact pressed against the connection electrode on the circuit board by elasticity of the contact terminal section.

    • An electric tool including a variable speed switch assembly including a potentiometer having a central rotatable member defining a bore with a noncircular cross section and a molded plastic speed control wheel housing the potentiometer. The speed control wheel includes a central post with a cross section corresponding to the cross section of the central potentiometer bore such that the central post can be housed in the central bore in only one relative position with respect to the central rotatable member. The variable speed switch assembly also includes a switch cover having projections which snap into designated holes provided in a circuit board such that the switch cover and the circuit cannot be incorrectly assembled. The switch cover includes a stop member that extends into a semi-circular recess in the speed control wheel to provide mechanical stops so that rotational movement of the speed control wheel corresponds with the range of the potentiometer. The variable speed switch assembly also incorporates a detent arrangement integrated into the switch cover and the speed control wheel and including a resilient finger, the end of which is received in a series of detent grooves in the speed control wheel to maintain the speed control wheel in a desired angular position corresponding to a desired speed setting.

    • A variable resistor having an insulating substrate, a resistive film applied to the surface of the substrate and spaced terminals supported by the resistor and in electrical connection with the resistive film. The resistance of the film is adjusted by means of scribing to remove portions of the film to provide a means of isolating certain areas of the film to increase the resistance of the electrical path between the terminals. Embodiments of the assemblage are disclosed wherein the scribing tool may provide an arcuate configuration or a linear configuration to provide desired resistance values.

    • A voltage-divider device including an output circuit capable of providing an output voltage from a preselected group of voltages, which output voltage may be set to correspond to a momentary or constant input voltage with respect to ground on a conductor thereof is disclosed.     • An encapsulated rheostat, particularly for data transmitters of filling level indicators in motor vehicle fuel tanks, has its resistive element enveloped in a resilient sheet of plastics material. A conductive inner layer is carried by the plastics sheet, and an adjustable contact pin presses against the sheet to establish localised contact between the conductive inner layer and the resistive element. The value of the electrical resistance of the rheostat is thereby variable by adjustment of the position of the contact pin. Air or other gas, or a liquid, confined within the encapsulating resilient plastics sheet tends to separate the resistive element and the conductive inner layer except at the region of localised contact provided by the adjustable contact pin. The resistive element may be of wire-wound construction, or may be resistive inner layer, possibly of strip form, carried by the plastics sheet.
