    • A tubular cylinder (2) is disclosed for handling plastic film webs in connection with production of thin plastic film, e.g. thin packing film. The cylinder (2) includes an outer tube (4) having radial apertures (6) that communicate with an inner tube (8) which is coaxial relative to the outer tube (4). Radial longitudinal partitionings (10) divide the space between the inner and outer tube into longitudinal curving ducts (12). The inner tube (8) is connected with a tubular duct (14) for the supply of air. The cylinder (2) includes bearings at opposite ends which rotatably support the cylinder (2) to rotate. The radial nozzle apertures (6) are disposed along two helical lines so that a helix at the first side of the center plane (20) is wound in a direction opposite a helix at the second side of the center plane (20). The radial nozzle apertures (6) are disposed at an outward angle outward relative to the radial center plane.

    • A reel is provided with a hub main body portion and a winding portion, on which a recording tape T is wound. The hub main body portion includes a main body periphery wall portion formed in a tubular shape and a cap portion provided at an upper end portion of the main body periphery wall portion. The winding portion is formed in a tubular shape, and the main body periphery wall portion is disposed inside the winding portion. An inner periphery face of the winding portion and an outer periphery face of the main body periphery wall portion are connected by a connection portion that protrudes to a radial direction inner side from the inner periphery face of the winding portion. A step portion is formed at the connection portion. The step portion, by resiliently deforming, displaces the winding portion to the main body periphery wall portion side thereof.

    • An interior core protector for protecting the interior of a coil of material, e.g., coiled sheet steel, from damage is disclosed. The core protector includes a pair of overlapping formed angular paperboard members each having a series of spaced die cuts in one leg thereof permitting the angular members to be bent to conform to the inner diameter of the coil. The cuts in one leg are offset from the cuts in the other leg such that when the protector is bent for placement in the interior core of the coil and the width of the cuts increases, a paperboard segment of one member nevertheless overlies the cut in the other to provide protection for the material about the full circumference of the interior core. The core protector is characterized in part by economies of materials used, economic use of such materials, and economies of shipment.

    • A collapsible reel (9) includes a resilient band (10) in the form of a discontinuous annulus and having end separated portions (14, 15). Those portions are coupled through a link (21) which is pivotable at two pivotal connections (24, 25), disposed at opposite ends of the link and fixedly coupled respectively to those portions, such that the link is movable between two positions at which the effective circumference of the reel has, respectively, been expanded and contracted. Detent means (40, 41) is used to hold the link releasably in the position at which the reel is expanded. The reel may be collapsed by inward pulling of a handle (50).

    • A spool having an elongated barrel has a strap supported at one end at a bottom flange on the barrel with the strap passing upwardly therethrough out of the upper end thereof. The strap is removably attached to the bottom flange. A handle is affixed to the strap portion which extends beyond the upper end of the spool. A rigid frame having an upright portion is affixed to a base supported by casters. The frame has a member rigidly affixed to and transversely extending from the upper end of the upright portion which overhangs the spool. A lever having a transverse portion near one end is pivotally connected at the distal end of the transverse portion to the frame member. An arm is pivotably secured at one end to the upright portion and at the other end is engageable with the spool handle. A link is pivotably connected between said arm and the transverse portion to provide a toggle linkage. A downward force applied to the end of the lever serves to lift the arm and the spool by means of the engagement between the arm and the handle whereas an upward force lowers the spool. The toggle linkage serves to lock the spool in the lifted position.
