    • A sound signal body, for generating underwater sound signals, that includes an explosive body which can be thrown out or released by hand. Within the explosive body is arranged an explosive charge as well as a hand grenade detonator having a pyrotechnical delayed detonator composition. The detonator is explodable at the head of the explosive body by a hammer. The sound signal body is provided with a hydraulic pressure switch which comprises a pressure chamber, at least one inlet which empties into the pressure chamber, and a membrane or diaphragm. The diaphragm is connected with a release bolt, which, through the diaphragm and dependent upon the pressure of the water flowing into the pressure chamber, is movable out of a safety position into an armed position. The sound signal body is further provided with a locking mechanism, by means of which it is possible, on the one hand, to arrest the hammer which, against the force of a torsion spring, is deflected in a safety position, as well as, on the other hand, to release the hammer, after obtaining a specific water pressure within the pressure chamber, in cooperation with the release bolt, by relaxing the torsion spring.

Apparatus for producing acoustic energy pulses for use in seismic surveying comprises a relatively thin but a really extensive chamber formed by a non-deformable member and one or more vibratable diaphragms together with first conduit means for introducing an explosive medium into the chamber, ignition means for exploding such medium in the chamber and second conduit means for exhausting the expended explosive medium therefrom. In one embodiment (Figs. 2 and 4) the chamber comprises the spiral groove between a non-deformable plate 17, in which it is formed, and a flexible rim clamped diaphragm 25 the explosive medium (preferably consisting of an oxyacetylene gas mixture) being introduced at the centre 21 of the spiral by means of a valve 19 detailed in Fig. 10, not shown), ignited by spark-plug means 24 and then exhausted from point 22 via conduit 14. Instead of a flexible diaphragm a rigid diaphragm resiliently rim clamped may be employed (Fig. 3, not shown) and instead of forming the groove as a true spiral a plurality of concentric but incomplete circular grooves connected by short straight grooves may be employed (Fig. 5, not shown). In a further embodiment (Figs. 6 and 7) the chamber is formed as a sinuous opening 36 in the non-deformable plate 35, both sides of which are sealed by resiliently rim clamped diaphragms 46, 47 and two spark-plugs 45 are provided for ignition of the gas mixture which enters via conduit 41 and is exhausted via conduit 42. Figs. 8 and 9 show another embodiment in which the chamber comprising a relatively broad spiral 56 sealed by a resiliently rim clamped diaphragm 64 is provided with a detonation passage 58 for ignition of the gas mixture, entering via conduit 57, by a sparkplug 62. The Specification refers to the problem of erratic burning of the gas mixture which results in indefiniteness of the time, after ignition, when the acoustic energy pulse occurs and states that by controlling the geometry of the area near the point of ignition the required conditions of temperature and pressure for detonation can be quickly established near such point. In one application of the invention to seismic surveying of water covered areas the acoustic energy source of the invention is supported below the surface of the water with the exhaust conduit 14 (see Fig. 1) extending above such surface to avoid spurious operation by bubbles. The gas valve 19 (Fig. 1) is controlled by a servomotor 97 from a seismic recorder inserted in the vessel 10 so that the instant of Occurrence of the acoustic pulse is indicated on the recorder on which reflected signals received by seismic detector 15 are also recorded. The invention may also be employed as a source of acoustic energy in the seismic surveying of land areas, in bore-hole operations, in fathometer apparatus or in sounding devices for submarine detection.

    • An apparatus for repelling birds or beasts by exploding gunpowder automatically and repeatedly to make explosive sounds. The apparatus comprises a housing, a body plate on which most of other parts of the apparatus are mounted, an electric motor, a disk-like gear mechanically connected to the electric motor via reduction gears, a gunpowder striking hammer and a driving link, respectively, rotatably secured to the body plate and being actuated by the rotation of the disk-like gear, a gunpowder supply plate driven by the driving link, a gunpowder band winding spool, a bottom plate for placing the gunpowder band, and a switch assembly operated by the rotation of disk-like gear and electrically connected with a timer, a dry cell battery, and the electric motor.

    • A vehicle on-board article theft warning system includes detection means for detecting on-board article-specific ID information transmitted from IC chips attached to on-board articles, ID information storing means for storing as initial ID information the article-specific ID information detected by the detection means when a theft detection mode is activated, discrimination means responsive to activation of the theft detection mode for comparing detected ID information consisting of on-board article-specific ID information detected by the detection means with the initial ID information and discriminating whether or not there exists missing ID information defined as ID information contained in the initial ID information but not contained in the detected ID information, and warning means responsive to a discrimination that missing ID information exists for determining that theft of an article corresponding to the missing ID information occurred and issuing a prescribed warning.
