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

摘要： A counting device for use in a road toll charging or similar system has a number of escape members each driven by a long-life clockwork-type mechanism differently linked to a counter so that under the control of input means responsive to different signals radiated by roadside sources the counter is operated by a different amount corresponding to the particular input signal received. In particular whole units or fractions of units can be registered when a vehicle carrying the counting device uses a road zone or a parking zone respectively.

摘要： A computing and recording register wherein integrating digital counters are driven by an input shaft to perform quantity, price and tax computations. The price and tax counters are driven by computer gearing coupled to the quantity counter drive gearing through a clutch. A two-stage advance mechanism rounds off the least significant digit of each of the counters and aligns the digits for printing quantity, price and tax data on a recording sheet at the conclusion of each transaction to be recorded. During the first stage, the quantity counter is advanced to align the digits while the clutch is engaged so that the price and tax counters are driven as the quantity counter advances. During the second stage, the clutch is disengaged and the price and tax counters advance independently of the quantity counter. Also included are a plurality of variable ratio gear trains adjustable through a translatable and rotatable selector shaft for changing one or more of the gear ratios to select the desired tax rate and price per quantity unit.

摘要： A time and distance computer particularly suited for use in a motorcycle rally has, in one embodiment a time increment indicator which includes concentrically disposed rings of gear teeth and a distance indicator manually rotatable through shafting; the shafting includes at least one gear which can be moved by a shifting mechanism into engagement with any of the concentric rings of gear teeth so that by manually changing the reading on the distance indicator the time increment indicator is rotated to denote a change in time. The gear ratios are chosen so that an incremental distance input is reflected by an incremental time reading which corresponds to the time it would take to travel the incremental distance at a particular rate of speed. Each of the concentric rings of gear teeth represent a different rate of speed.
