摘要： Instances of the present technology may include a method for operating a hematology analyzer. The method may include passing a control material through a hematology analyzer. The control material may include a first cell population and a second cell population. The method may also include determining a first cell population volume measurement and a second cell population volume measurement. A first value of a first cell population distribution width and a second value of a second cell population distribution width may be calculated. The method may include comparing the first value to a first reference range. The method may also include comparing the second value to a second reference range. Furthermore, the method may include classifying an operational status of the hematology analyzer based on the comparison of the first value to the first reference range and based on the comparison of the second value to the second reference range.

摘要： Disclosed herein are apparatus, systems, and methods for optically identifying and enumerating cells present in a blood sample. A light scatter detector array may be used having no more than three light scatter detectors. The array may include a side scatter detector, an intermediate angle light scatter detector, and one of an axial light loss detector and a forward light scatter detector. A lytic reagent system is disclosed that allows for the identification and enumeration of five major leukocyte populations in normal whole blood on an instrument using no more than three light scatter detectors.

摘要： Among other things, a method comprises imaging a sample displaced between a sensor surface and a surface of a microscopy sample chamber to produce an image of at least a part of the sample. The image is produced using lensless optical microscopy, and the sample contains at least blood from a subject. The method also comprises automatically differentiating cells of different types in the image, generating a count of one or more cell types based on the automatic differentiation, and deriving a radiation dose the subject has absorbed based on the count.

摘要： Systems and methods for analyzing blood samples, and more specifically for performing a nucleated red blood cell (nRBC) analysis. The systems and methods screen a blood sample by means of fluorescence staining and a fluorescence triggering strategy, to identify nuclei-containing particles within the blood sample. As such, interference from unlysed red blood cells (RBCs) and fragments of lysed RBCs is substantially eliminated. The systems and methods also enable development of relatively milder reagent(s), suitable for assays of samples containing fragile white blood cells (WBCs). In one embodiment, the systems and methods include: (a) staining a blood sample with an exclusive cell membrane permeable fluorescent dye; (b) using a fluorescence trigger to screen the blood sample for nuclei-containing particles; and (c) using measurements of light scatter and fluorescence emission to distinguish nRBCs from WBCs.

摘要： A urine specimen analysis device includes a specimen drawing portion, a sample preparing portion, a measurement portion, and an information processing portion. The specimen drawing portion draws a first aliquot and a second aliquot from a urine specimen. The sample preparing portion prepares a first measurement sample by mixing the first aliquot and a first staining dye that stains red blood cells, and a second measurement sample by mixing the second aliquot and a second staining dye that stains nucleic acids. The measurement portion measures fluorescence emitted from the first measurement sample prepared by the sample preparing portion, and fluorescence emitted from the second measurement sample prepared by the sample preparing portion. The information processing portion detects at least red blood cells contained in the first measurement sample based on the fluorescence of the first measurement sample measured by the measurement portion, and at least white blood cells contained in the second measurement sample based on the fluorescence of the second measurement sample measured by the measurement portion.

Some of the methods may use (1) centrifugal techniques for separating red blood cells from plasma and (2) video and/or still imaging capability. Both may be used alone or in combination to accelerate formed blood component sedimentation and to measure its rate. In one example, the method may advantageously enable rapid measurement of sedimentation rate using small blood sample volumes. Automated image analysis can be used to determine both sedimentation rate and hematocrit. Automated techniques may be used to compensate for effects of hematocrit on uncorrected sedimentation rate data.
