    • Embodiments provide a multi-pass kiln with two or more chambers, an entrance and an exit at a proximal end of the kiln, and a reciprocal flow path extending through the kiln from the entrance to the exit. Lumber charges traveling along the reciprocal flow path may travel in a first direction along one side of the heated second chamber before traveling in a substantially opposite second direction along the opposite side of the second chamber. The distal end of the kiln may be substantially sealed, and a pressure differential between the distal end and the proximal end may draw moist heated air from the heated chamber toward the exit and entry to preheat and/or condition lumber charges traveling through the first chamber.

    • An apparatus and a method for drying under reduced pressure using microwaves. The apparatus comprises a chamber (13) for housing an object (11), a depressurizing pump (22) connected to the chamber (13) for depressurizing the inside of the chamber (13), a microwave irradiating device (12) for irradiating microwaves to the object (11) in the chamber (13), an airflow generating device for generating an airflow in the chamber (13) by introducing a gas from the outside to the inside of the chamber (13), and a control device (35) for controlling the above components. The object (11) in the chamber (13) is dried at temperatures below a deterioration temperature of the object (11) by intermittent irradiation of the microwaves under reduced pressure while the airflow is generated around the object (11).

    • An oven for drying the sealing compound on beverage and food can ends utilizes a prior art serpentine track along which a line of abutting can ends is conveyed through a drying chamber in which heated drying air is directed against the edges of the can ends through a plurality of linear nozzles. The improved apparatus of the present invention utilizes a drying chamber which substantially surrounds the track and includes a plurality of nozzles which direct a substantially uniform flow of drying air against all sides of the line of can ends. The improved apparatus is particularly effective in drying lining compounds on steel food can ends, but is suitable as well for the treatment of aluminum beverage can ends.

    • A portable resin curing apparatus is used for curing or drying materials printed on a screen press which has rotatable platens carrying screen printed sheets from a printing station to a curing station. The portable curing apparatus is located at the curing station and has electrical resistance heating elements alternating between low voltage and high voltage in conjunction with a forced air flow between the heating elements and printed material being cured. A controller is employed which sends an electrical signal upon advancement of the printed materials. Full curing voltage with no forced air flow is supplied to the heating elements during curing operations, whereas a lower voltage in combination with forced air flow is employed during the intervals between successive curing operations to prevent heat from continuing to be imparted to the printed material while still allowing for rapid re-attainment of full curing upon resumption of production.

    • A sealing assembly for a rotary kiln or furnace is achieved with a pair of outer sealing rings urged into a pressured sealing engagement by a barrier gas provided at a predetermined pressure from a burette.
