摘要： This invention makes possible a substantial improvement in the distillation column efficiencies of a cryogenic air separation process while still retaining high reboil rates through the argon stripping section of the low pressure column. Those advantages result in a lower energy requirement for separating air while still yielding medium to high oxygen purity. In a triple pressure column arrangement, the medium pressure column efficiency is increased by reboiling it at two or more locations by latent heat exchange with both the high pressure and low pressure columns. The LP column vapor which reboils the MP column is taken from above at least part of the argon stripper, to maintain a high reboil rate through the stripper.

摘要： A method for the purification of argon in a gas obtained as a by-product from the fractionation of air to the recover O.sub.2 and N.sub.2 is described. The argon-containing gas is fed to a single argon-rectifying column which separates oxygen and then to a conventional purification column in which the separation takes place. The apparatus for carrying out the method comprises a rectification column having the top connected to a heating compressing and cooling circuit for liquefying and recycling in the liquid state the evolved vapors; the bottom of the column is heated by a fraction of the compressed but not cooled gaseous mixture drawn from the heating and compressing section of said circuit; the end section of this latter being further connected to a conventional nitrogen-withdrawing column for feeding a portion of the oxygen-free liquefied product.

摘要： A process for recovering argon in which a crude argon column is supplied with an argon feed gas containing a larger proportion of oxygen from a double rectifier and is cooled at its head portion with or without liquid air from a sump of the lower column of the double rectifier for producing a reflux of argon in the crude argon column. In the process, argon gas is compressed to a pressure sufficient for evaporating liquid oxygen fed from a condenser of the double rectifier, is then precooled in a heat exchanger, and thereafter liquefied by heat exchange with the liquid oxygen. Then the head portion of the crude argon column is cooled with the liquefied argon, which is then returned in a gaseous state for further compression to thereby circulate the argon gas.
