    • A refrigerator which can supply water from a household water supply system into an ice tray, or alternatively, can supply water from a separate water tank into the ice tray. The refrigerator has a housing having a refrigerating chamber, a freezing chamber, and an evaporator chamber which is disposed at a rear portion of the freezing chamber, an ice tray disposed in the freezing chamber, a motor assembly for rotating the ice tray when a liquid filled in the ice tray is frozen, a valve box installed on an upper surface of the housing for receiving the liquid from a household water supply system or from a liquid tank, a fluid path for guiding the liquid from the valve box to the ice tray, a rotating fan assembly for detecting an amount of the liquid flowed into the ice tray, a solenoid valve assembly for adjusting the amount of the liquid being supplied into the ice tray, and an electric control unit for operating the solenoid valve assembly based on an electric signal inputted from the rotating fan assembly.

    • A pre-chiller for an incoming fresh water supply of an ice maker. The device is connectable onto an upright surface of the existing ice maker, a separate wall surface or the like and includes a chamber for receiving and holding cold waste water discharged from the ice maker during each ice making cycle. A standpipe connected within the chamber drains the waste water while automatically maintaining waste water level within the chamber. A fresh water cooling conduit, preferably comprised of a plurality of enlarged hollow stainless steel cylinders connected for series flow of fresh water therethrough, is positioned submersed in the cold waste water within the chamber. During each ice maker cycle, cold waste water is delivered into the chamber and fresh water being held for chilling within the cooling conduit by the surrounding waste water is moved into the ice maker water inlet. A time delay between start up of the ice maker water pump and chilled fresh water delivery is also provided to pre-chill the evaporator plate within the ice maker, which reduces expansion valve frustration.

    • The invention relates to portable apparatuses for dispensing purified water from conventional five gallon water bottles directly into a spigot mounted on a sink or an ice maker of a refrigerator. The bottle of water does not have to be mounted on any known support or cabinet, but can remain in its upright position. The water is pumped directly from the bottle through a flexible tube upon drop in pressure in the transport line. A sensing mechanism detects this drop in pressure when the spigot is open and activates a motor which drives the pump. Second pressure switch de-activates the pump when the water runs out of the bottle to prevent overheating of the motor. The pump then has to be manually reset. A time release is provided when it is desired to connect the bottle to an ice maker, so that the pump continuously operates for several minutes to fill in the ice maker and then automatically stops.

    • Water is pumped from a container to a refrigerator ice maker and/or chilled water unit. The apparatus for transferring the water includes a motor operated pump, and the motor includes a pair of switches in series for turning the motor off. The switches include a pressure switch actuated from water pressure in the pumped water line and a switch to indicate when the water level in the container is at or below a certain, predetermined minimum. A check valve is in the pumped water line between the pump and the pressure switch to prevent loss of pressure in the line due to the bleeding of pressure through the pump that could otherwise cause the pump to start pumping water when there was no demand for it from the refrigerator.

    • An automatic water delivery system for transferring water from a storage container to an ice maker. A pump is connected to be driven by an electric motor. The suction of the pump is connected to a container, and the outlet of the pump is connected to the ice maker control valve. When the pump is actuated, water is forced to flow from the container to the ice maker on demand. The discharge from the pump is connected to a high pressure normally closed switch and a low pressure normally opened switch. The switchs are each connected by circuitry to energize the motor whenever the pressure at the pump discharge is within the predetermined range of pressure. An air exhaust valve for exhausting compressible fluid from the interior of the pump and away from the pump discharge is included in the system. This novel arrangement permits flow of water from the pump discharge to proceed directly to the icemaker, and, whenever air is present in the chamber, air is forced to exit the system. Therefore, air which enters the system is removed through the valve device while water forces the valve element into seated relationship. Hence, very little water is exhausted from the system. Accordingly, when full bottles of water are substituted for the empty water bottles, air is ingested into the various water conduits, and the air will thereafter be forced by the pump to move into the valve chamber, where the air then flows past the valve element, and is discharged to ambient.

The apparatus includes a first container having a same volume as the ice tray and being rotatably installed below the water tank, and a valve unit for opening and closing the water tank. A driving member for rotating the first container and at the same time, raising and lowering the valve unit is provided. A water supply member is installed in a partition wall which partitions off the freezing and refrigerating compartments. The water supply member flows water from an outlet pipe of a second container to the ice tray. At first, water is supplied to the first container, and then water supplied to the first container is supplied to the ice tray. Therefore, an exact amount of water is supplied to the ice tray.
