The pilot burner system includes an annular mixing cavity with an entrance for assist air and pilot fuel and outlet nozzles. The mixing cavity is provided with at least two swirler wings arranged in the vicinity of each outlet nozzle.

The stabilisation device consists of a grid (4a) that can be positioned in the inlet opening of the burner, and that comprises a central ring (5a) surrounded by a series of diverting vanes (6), the grid being thus configured so as to allow the free passage of the central portion of the flow of gaseous mixture entering the burner through the central ring (5a) while said diverting vanes (6) generate an eddy movement in the peripheral portion of the flow entering the burner from the outside of the central ring (5a).

Both the enhanced and unenhanced minitubes are commonly bundled so as to function as a single fuel nozzle of the premixer. Each enhanced minitube includes a turbulence enhancer arranged to disturb a flow of the premixed mixture at the exit of thereof. This intensifies the turbulent jet interaction of the fuel and oxidizer mixture as the mixture suddenly expands from the enhanced minitube, thus providing aerodynamic combustion stabilization.

One or more fluid conduits connect an upstream portion of at least one fuel passage with one or more air passages such that pressure drops across each fuel injection orifice substantially self-equalize in a passive manner with corresponding air passage pressure drops over a broad range of fuel lower heating value (LHV) from about 150 Btu/scf to about 900 Btu/scf of fuel passing through the fuel passage while mixing with air passing through one or more connected fluid conduits. The effective area of each fluid conduit relative to the corresponding fuel and air passages is dependent upon the desired fuel LHV operating range.
