    • An injection cooler for cooling hot steam in a pipeline has an injecting device that has multiple injection nozzles. The cooler includes a regulating body connected to a coolant supply. The regulating body is equipped with a valve arrangement to regulate coolant feed to the injection nozzles. Coolant feed lines are provided between the injecting device and the regulating body with a separate coolant feed line being provided for each injection nozzle. Ends of the coolant feed lines of the injecting device are secured to a first flange plate which can be secured to a surface on the injecting device. Ends of the coolant feed lines associated with the regulating body are secured to a second flange plate which is secured to a receiving surface of the regulating body. The injecting device has a tubular mixing portion with a de Laval nozzle-type longitudinal section along a longitudinal axis.

    • The present invention relates to an apparatus and method of deploying a desuperheater with a Seat-Ring designed to provide coolant injection at high temperature differential. The present invention's robust design provides for a high level of flexibility that allows operating at high temperature differentials between the coolant and the superheated fluid. The desuperheater Seat-Ring is made as a split hollow ring with a perpendicular slit traversing the ring's circumference. The opened slit design provides a high level of flexibility, which allows the seat ring to sustain severe temperature extremes by reducing thermal stress. The coolant is supplied to the seat ring through a specially designed coolant nipple liner connected to the seat-ring.

    • A steam transformer (200) receives steam through a steam inlet (203), and the steam is mixed in a mixing zone (231) with water entering through a water inlet (205). Steam cooled by contact with the water exits the steam transformer through a cold steam outlet (216). Between the mixing zone (231) and the cold steam outlet (216) is positioned a demister (214) that restricts the passage of water droplets.The steam transformer (200) is used to condition the steam temperature in steam turbine and combined cycle turbine facilities when adjustment of steam temperature is required, such as for cold starts of turbines. The steam transformer (200) may be installed into a bypass circuit or directly inline. A number of differing configurations and designs are disclosed.

    • The present invention inserts and retrieves a desuperheating assembly from within a pressurized steam header through an existing conduit that joins the steam header to the surrounding environment. A gate valve is disposed within the connecting conduit obstructing access to the steam header when closed. The spray nozzle of the desuperheating assembly is attached to a fluid supply pipe and is placed within the conduit on the side of the gate valve that is exposed to the ambient environment. A gas impervious seal is produced between the conduit and the fluid supply pipe so as to isolate the spray nozzle between the gate valve and the gas impervious seal. The gate valve is opened exposing the spray nozzle to the steam header. The supply pipe is advanced past the gas impervious seal, which in turn, drives the spray nozzle into the steam header. Water or steam atomized water can be supplied to the spray nozzle from an external source through the supply pipe that extends from the spray nozzle within the steam header, past the gas impervious seal, to a point external of the vessel. When retrieving the spray nozzle from within the steam header, the supply pipe is retracted past the gas impervious seal within the connecting conduit. As such, the spray nozzle is retracted into the connecting conduit past the gate valve. The gate valve is closed and the spray nozzle is isolated from the steam header. The pressure surrounding the spray nozzle is vented to ambient and the spray nozzle can then be removed without adversely effecting the flow of steam within the steam header. The spray nozzle can then be repaired or replaced and returned into the steam header as described.

    • An attemperator in the form of a steam desuperheater is disclosed herein and comprises a water tube adapted to be connected to a source of water under high pressure and a spray tube communicating with the water tube through a flow-control device for controlling the flow of water from the water tube to the spray tube. The spray tube is adapted to be located in a steam line for injecting cooling water into the steam when its temperature exceeds a predetermined temperature and accordingly is formed with one or more nozzles for injecting a spray of water travelling along an expanding swirling path into the steam, the water being atomized into small droplets which easily evaporate in the steam. Preferably, a plurality of nozzles are provided arranged in rows extending axially of the spray tube and the rows are circumferentially spaced apart. Also, the nozzles preferably communicate with the inside of the spray tube through a series of small ports. A piston movable axially within the spray tube controls the quantity of water discharged into the steam.
