    • A spherical plug valve structure having a seat assembly on opposed sides of a ball valve member. Each seat assembly is mounted for limited longitudinal movement toward and away from the adjacent ball valve member and an annular recess in the seat assembly receives a sealing element having a free lip portion in sealing contact with the valve member. An annular groove contiguous with the recess and facing in a direction generally perpendicular to the recess receives a resilient O-ring which is in contact with and provides a resilient support for the lip portion of the sealing element. The sealing element has its free end terminating generally adjacent the groove and may be partially received within the groove upon contact with the ball valve member particularly under high pressure conditions.

    • An improved ball valve assembly is provided for use on firefighting equipment and other applications. The ball valve assembly includes an improved seal assembly which includes both a load bearing seal element and a soft elastomeric seal element. Both seal elements are held in place by a seat member which is accommodated in a recess provided on the inside surface of the seat housing or valve body. The load bearing seal member provides support for the ball element and serves to wipe or remove debris from the ball element before the ball element engages the soft elastomer seal. As a result, the load bearing seal member removes the stress normally imparted to soft elastomer seals utilized in ball valve assemblies. Further, a lubrication fitting and passageways are provided which enable lubricant to be communicated through the housing and through the seal assembly to the ball element. The ball valve assembly may also be connected in-line between conduits using circular clamps thereby enabling the ball valve to be rotated about the central axis of the conduit for versatility in installation and positioning. The lubricant fitting may be incorporated into an overall lubrication system for lubricating other ball valves on the firefighting equipment. The ball valve assembly may also be connected to a relief valve and disposed between a firefighting pump and behind a protective panel or housing thereby disposing both the ball valve and relief valve behind a protective housing as opposed to outside of the housing or the truck body in an exposed position.

    • A plug valve is disclosed having a valve chamber with inlet and outlet flow passages in fluid communication therewith, at least one of the flow passages having a generally cylindrical seat recess formed therein about the flow passage and an axially movable seat assembly disposed therein. The valve includes improved means for biasing the sealing assembly against the plug member and cleaning the space between the sealing assembly and the valve body, namely a plurality of conduits extending from the interior surface of a flow passage to a shoulder surface of its associated seat recess and providing for fluid communication between those surfaces.In the preferred embodiment of this invention, wherein the plug is spherical and rotatably mounted on upper and lower trunnions, the lower end of the lower trunnion is mounted in a trunnion cap, and a limit stop is incorporated therein comprising trunnion. A novel sealing assembly is disclosed for use in the preferred embodiment, including a seat ring and overfitting retainer ring defining an annular groove, an elastomeric sealing element being tightly held therein under radial and axial compression and projecting through an opening in the groove to contact the plug in sealing engagement therewith.

    • A valve of the ball type having a ported rotatable valve member (i.e., valve ball) within a valve body, and a sealing assembly which provides a seal between the body and the valve member. The sealing assembly includes a metal ring having non-metallic resilient sealing means which contacts the valve working surface of the valve ball. The fluid pressure areas of the sealing assembly are such that line pressure for flow in either direction does not cause the seal between the sealing means and the valve member to be broken. The ring is fitted and guided within the valve body in such a manner as to prevent cocking. The nonmetallic resilient sealing means carried by the metal ring provides a double seal on two concentric areas, and ducts permit communication with the space between such sealing areas from the exterior of the body. Preferably only one sealing assembly is employed, and this is located in that portion of the body which is integral with the main portion of the body, whereby the remaining welded-on body part may be applied in the final phases of manufacture without disturbing the alignment of the valve member or injury to the sealing assembly.
