    • A drive system for the transmission of power from a drive source to a plurality of output trains includes a transfer gear connected upstream of the output trains, and an arrangement for ensuring that the output trains are not overloaded with torque. The arrangement includes a safety clutch with a basic clutch body for the frictionally engaged connection of two machine parts, and at least one thin-walled sleeve which forms a wall of an annular chamber upon which pressure medium can act. The arrangement further includes at least one feed line which extends through the clutch body to the annular chamber and can be closed off in an air and fluid-tight manner by use of closure elements. The arrangement finally includes a pressure-relief mechanism. The safety clutch is arranged upstream of the transfer gear. The pressure-relief mechanism is coupled to an arrangement for detecting the torque at the output trains and/or a magnitude which is proportional to the torque and is associated with each output train, and/or an influencing quantity in the area surrounding the machine. The clutch includes a device for activating the pressure-relief mechanism when the torque and/or a magnitude proportional to the torque and/or an influencing quantity is/are exceeded.

    • A shaft coupling comprises two coupling members, which are connected or adapted to be connected to respective shafts. One of the two coupling members is provided on a coupling face with an even number of bores, which have a uniform angular spacing and are either parallel to the axis of rotation of the coupling or radial with respect to said axis. A piston is slidably mounted in each bore and has a coupling end face with is beveled or crowned. Hydraulic lines are provided for applying fluid pressure to each piston at its rear end. The other coupling member is provided on a coupling face with an annular series of alternating elevations and depressions, which also have a uniform angular spacing. By the application of hydraulic pressure to the rear end faces of the pistons, the coupling end faces of the pistons are urged against the elevations and depressions. To permit a control of the torque transmission capacity of the coupling so that said capacity can be decreased to zero and to ensure that the torque transmission capacity will be independent of the slip between surfaces in frictional contact and of any change of the viscosity of a liquid, the bores are arranged in pairs of diametrically opposite bores and the bores of each pair communicate with each other through a hydraulic line, which is permanently filled with a hydraulic liquid. A controllable throttle valve is associated with each of said hydraulic lines. Adjacent ones of said elevations and depressions merge into each other.

    • A gearing unit has a housing containing gearing drivably interconnecting a rotary input to an output shaft used to propel a drive chain of a mineral mining machine. A clutch is provided which is released by hydraulic pressure to disengage the drive automatically should excessive loading occur. A spigot rotatably locked to the shaft provides a fluid passage for hydraulic fluid used to release the clutch and the fluid flow is controlled by an electromagnetic valve. A torsion bar carrying a load sensor is located within the spigot and the sensor provides an electrical signal transferred to control means for operating the valve via a slip-ring system. The torsion bar is rotatably locked to the shaft via a coupling rod disposed within the shaft and a push-in connection. The torsion bar is also rotatably secured to the spigot for easy release therefrom. Access to the bar from outside the housing is facilitated and by releasing at least the connection between the spigot and the bar, the latter can be withdrawn axially while leaving the other components intact.

    • A safety shaft coupling member for coupling together two coaxial shafts andncorporating an overload safety device, which causes complete interruption of the transmission of torque when an acceptable maximum torque is exceeded, comprises a hub sleeve which is adapted to be fixed to a driven shaft, and a cup-shaped assembly in which the hub sleeve is freely rotatably mounted and is capable of limited axial displacement. The hub sleeve and the cup-shaped assembly have concentric toothed end faces situated in a common plane extending normal to the axis of rotation of the coupling member, and a first annular piston has two annular sets of teeth arranged to mesh with the toothed end faces. This first annular piston is extensible against the force of a restoring spring out of a liquid pressure device which is fixed either to the sleeve or to the cup-shaped assembly, and a second annular piston is also extensible against the force of a restoring spring in a direction opposite to that of the first annular piston out of the liquid pressure device to press against an end face of the cup-shaped assembly or the sleeve, whichever does not have the liquid pressure device fixed to it. Extension of both the pistons engages the teeth of the first piston to the two toothed end faces and so transmits torque from the hub sleeve to the cup-shaped assembly, but release of the liquid pressure in the device causes the first piston to be retracted and interrupt the transmission of torque.
