    • Embodiments of clutches for electric tools, and related methods, are disclosed herein. An electric tool may include an electric motor, a drive shaft coupled between the electric motor and a cutting instrument, and a clutch coupled between the electric motor and the drive shaft. The clutch may include a motor portion having an exterior surface, a drive shaft portion having an exterior surface and forming a mated assembly when mated with the motor portion, and a spring around the motor and drive shaft portions. The spring may exert a holding force on the mated assembly, such that rotation of the motor portion in a first direction loosens the spring and reduces the friction holding force until a torque between the motor and drive shaft portions exceeds the holding force, causing rotation of the motor portion to be decoupled from rotation of the drive shaft portion.

    • A torque hinge or torque limiter includes external and internal cylindrical members that are capable of relatively rotating, and a coil spring placed between the external and internal cylindrical members. A first circumferential portion is formed on a front-end side of the inner periphery of the external cylindrical member. A second circumferential portion is formed on a rear-end side of the outer periphery of the internal cylindrical member. The torque value that blocks the rotary torque of the external or internal cylindrical member in a first arbitrary direction is set by pressing the first circumferential portion against the outer circumferential portion of the coil spring.     • A clutch includes a driving-side rotating body, a driven-side rotating body, a holding case, and a power transmitting member held by one of the driving-side rotating body and the holding case. The power transmitting member is moved between a non-engaging position and an engaging position where the driving-side rotating body engages with the driven-side rotating body. The clutch further includes a guiding member held by the other of the driving-side rotating body and the holding case. The guiding member has a cam portion engaged with the power transmitting member and guides movement of the power transmitting member between the engaging position and the non-engaging position. Relative rotation between the driving-side rotating body and the holding case occurs, resulting in that the power transmitting member is guided by the cam portion to move from the non-engaging position to the engaging position.

    • The present invention relates to a torque transmitting cardan shaft, and, in principle, includes within the shaft an adapted intermediate member or shaft, which has a first end section, that is intended for a rotationally rigid co-action with a first universal joint yoke and a second end section, opposite the first end section, intended for a rotationally rigid co-action with a second universal joint yoke. The intermediate member or shaft and its end section is configured as and includes two parts or sub-sections, which are mutually joined via a safety coupling arrangement, by which a free coupling of the subsections from one other can be ensured immediately after the torque, between said subsections, exceeds a predetermined value, determined by the construction of the safety coupling arrangement. An end section and its universal joint yoke includes an axially orientated cylindrical groove or recess, which has a centre axis that is co-ordinated with or aligned with a rotational axis of said first end section and its co-ordinated universal joint yoke. The circular groove or recess is dimensioned to enable the enclosure of a major cylindrical part of said safety coupling arrangement and its safety unit first part and co-operate with a second part formed as a disc. The end section or extension and its yoke are integrated formed to one single piece.

    • A down shift mechanism for incorporation in a device such as an assembly tool includes a wrap spring which locks and releases a planetary gear speed reduction assembly to provide shifts between two drive ratios in response to torque throughput. The wrap spring is received upon a drive drum within a cylindrical housing. The ends of the wrap spring are engaged by a pair of relatively rotationally adjustable and fixable spring engaging lugs which adjust the preload of the wrap spring and thus the torque level at which the spring unwraps and lifts off the drive drum and thus the torque level at which the shift occurs. The wrap spring housing is coupled to the ring gear of the planetary gear assembly. When the torque applied to the wrap spring exceeds the preload, the spring unwraps, unlocking the ring gear and planetary gear assembly and downshifting to the speed reduction determined by the planetary gear assembly. An alternate embodiment of the downshift mechanism is also presented.
