    • A two-stage clutch for separable connection of an input shaft to at least one output shaft, having a clutch cover, a clutch basket and a plurality of partial clutches, the partial clutches being operated in series. A first partial clutch is a pilot clutch, which is actively operable. A second partial clutch is a main clutch, which is operable by the pilot clutch, an operating force for the main clutch being produced by a torque transmitted by a shaft. In this two-stage clutch, the clutch cover is firmly connectible to the clutch basket. With the two-stage clutch proposed here, high torques can be transmitted despite small external operating forces. At the same time, the construction and assembly are greatly simplified in spite of the considerable complexity of the two-stage clutch, and the two-stage clutch has a significantly reduced rotating mass.

    • A clutch apparatus is equipped with two clutch structures having a clutch drum therein. A driven plate and a piston are provided in the clutch drum of each clutch structure, and a primary coned disc spring and a secondary coned disc spring, which are ring-shaped, are provided between the driven plate and the piston. A flat portion is formed on an inner peripheral portion of a convex surface of the primary coned disc spring, and the flat portion can come into contact with a counter member first when a load is applied. A load in a flat condition due to elastic deformation is adjusted by the flat portion so as to be a desirable value. Blanks and of the primary coned disc spring and the secondary coned disc spring can be obtained from one sheet of material having the same thickness. In this case, the flat portion is formed by press forming on an inner peripheral portion of the blank in view of the shape thereof after bending forming is performed.

    • A piston assembly for a transmission includes a piston housing and a release spring. The piston housing has a bore including a first radial wall and a circumferential wall. The release spring has a first radially outwardly extending finger portion, a second radially outwardly extending finger portion, and a conical portion. The first finger portion is for pressing engagement with the first radial wall and the second finger portion is for pressing engagement with the circumferential wall. The conical portion is disposed radially inward of the first and second finger portions. In an example embodiment, the piston housing includes a second radial wall for pressing against a clutch pack for the transmission. In some example embodiments, the piston assembly includes a seal plate, fixed to the piston housing and arranged to retain at least one piston seal.
