    • A sensor mountable within a hydraulic cylinder provides a precision signal indicative of the position of the piston. The sensor includes a flexible connector attached between the cylinder piston and a converting element for sensing the piston displacement. The converting element comprises a pick-up spool, under tension, coupled to the other end of the connector and rotatable about an axis. A lead screw engages threads on the spool, and translates linearly when the spool rotates. A non-contacting electromechanical transducer senses the position of the lead screw, and provides an output signal proportional to the motion or position of the movable element. The transducer may be an LVDT or other transducer. A high-pressure seal assembly provides an electrical path between the sensor and an external connector. A piston stop prevents the piston from damaging the sensor. The sensor is held within the cylinder by port inserts threaded into standard cylinder hydraulic fluid ports and advanced inwardly to grip the sensor.

    • A servo system includes a driven body (C), a hydraulic driving unit (A) for moving the driven body (C), a mechanical hydraulic servo valve (1), a sheave (31), a flexible measuring tape (33), a rotary driving source (M) and an adjusting unit (4,5,6,7). The servo valve (1) includes a spring-biased movable spool (11) and can activate the driving unit (A) to move the driven body (C) when the spool (11) is moved. The sheave (31) is mounted on the driven body (C) and has an outer peripheral surface. The measuring tape (33) has a first end portion secured to the sheave (31), a second end portion (331), and an intermediate portion wound on the sheave (31) along the outer peripheral surface of the sheave (31). The rotary driving source (M) is coupled operably to the sheave (31) and is operable to rotate the sheave (31) in order to wind and unwind the measuring tape (33). The adjusting unit (4,5,6,7) is coupled to the second end portion (331) of the measuring tape (33) and the spool (11) so as to move the spool (11) by a distance equivalent to linear displacement of the measuring tape (33) multiplied by a selected factor less than 1 so as to improve performance of the system.

    • In the case of the adjustable upper link in a three-point suspension device for a tractor, comprising a locking device in the form of a line fitted with a shut-off device and connecting together the two end-faces of the hydraulic cylinder, the invention simplifies the operation of the device in that it may be adjusted effortlessly from the tractor-seat. This is achieved in that the shut-off device is in the form of a ball-valve having an axis secured to a forked actuating lever, and in that springs are provided to urge the said actuating lever towards the shut-off position. A scale provides the tractor-driver with an accurate indication of the setting of the link. The design of a tube accommodating one end of the piston-rod as a compressed-air chamber ensures automatic displacement of the piston in the hydraulic cylinder.

    • A displacement measuring device is disclosed that is particularly useful for measuring and remotely indicating the displacement of a piston rod relative to the cylinder of a power actuator of an earth working implement. The device includes a variable resistor controlled by a gearless actuator connected with the piston rod so that the effective resistance of the resistor is varied depending upon the axial displacement of the piston rod relative to the cylinder. An indicator is connected by electrical circuitry with the variable resistor to display the amount of piston rod displacement relative to the cylinder. A plurality of embodiments of the device are disclosed with one disclosed embodiment including a cable wound about a pulley mounted on the rotatable control shaft of the variable resistor with the cable having one end fastened to the piston rod and a retraction spring to maintain the cable taut regardless of piston displacement in either axial direction. The other disclosed embodiments include a linear resistant element mounted on either the cylinder or the piston rod with a wiper arm engaging the resistance element so that the effective resistance is varied depending upon the amount of piston rod displacement relative to the cylinder and a cylinder mounted pivotable first rod pivoted by a second rod mounted on the piston rod so that pivoting of the first rod in one direction causes a finger to be pivoted to rotate the control shaft of a variable resistor to thus vary the effective resistance of the resistor.

    • A fluid-powered actuator comprises a cylindrical body having a base proximate one extremity and a head proximate another extremity, a piston-rod assembly and a sensor module made of a removable cover and a position sensor. The piston-rod assembly is slidably mounted inside the cylindrical body. The base is provided with an opening adapted to accommodate the sensor therethrough. In operation, the cover seals the opening. The position sensor is mounted to an internal face of the cover so that the position sensor is operatively located inside the cylindrical body when the cover is in place. The position sensor is operative to measure a position of the piston-rod assembly. A sensor module adapted to sealably close the opening in the base comprises the position sensor mounted to an internal face of a cover structure. In operation, the position sensor is operatively located inside the actuator when the cover structure closes the opening.
