    • A self-priming centrifugal pump has enhanced efficiency and performance characteristics and/or features which facilitate installation, inspection and maintenance of the pump. For efficiency and performance, the pump may include a smooth fluid flow path which enhances pump output for a given input power, including one or more of a specially shaped and directed volute discharge, a lack of internal stiffening ribs on the pump casing walls, a necked inlet and a rounded, flow-channeling outlet aperture. For maintenance and serviceability, the pump may include one or more of a coarse-threaded drive shaft and impeller with a concentricity feature, a combination port for both filling the casing and accessing the inlet flapper valve, and a drive disassembly system which facilitates attachment or removal of the drive system from the pump.

    • An ejector includes: a decompression chamber in an outer pipe on an air entrance side; a throat in the outer pipe on an air exit side; a nozzle in the outer pipe on the air entrance side, the nozzle having a leading end portion placed in a decompression chamber to inject air; and a suction port in the decompression chamber to suck blow-by gas into the decompression chamber. The air injected from the nozzle generates negative pressure in the decompression chamber to suck in blow-by gas through the suction port, and the sucked gas is discharged together with air through a throat. The valve in the nozzle includes a valve seat, a valve element, and a spring to press the valve element in a direction to separate from the valve seat. The valve element is formed with a bottom-closed cavity opening toward an upstream side of an air flow.

    • A pumping system having a main pump with a controller and a primer. The primer includes a vacuum source for drawing priming fluid into the pump, a vibratory fork liquid sensor which constantly senses for priming fluid, and a primer controller which connects the vacuum source as soon as the sensor does not sense priming fluid. The main pump controller initiates operation of the main pump substantially immediately upon receiving an indication that pumping is desired. A related pump operating method includes continuously sensing for the presence of adequate priming fluid, adding priming fluid to the pump whenever the presence of priming fluid is not sensed, and initiating operation of the pump substantially immediately upon receiving an indication that pumping is desired.

    • A pump primer for a pump on a fire truck uses a high-speed compressed air in a venturi in a compressed air chamber to generate a vacuum in a vacuum chamber to prime a pump, with an integral valve which separates the pump from the priming ejectors (venturis), the valve being opened by the compressed air when the primer is activated, the valve being closed by a spring return when the compressed air supply is removed, where water drawn in through the primer is freely drained by gravity to prevent freezing in cold weather.

    • The impeller (1) is seated with its impeller hub (3) fixed for rotation on a shaft (4).     • A shallow well centrifugal pump having a casing forming a fluid flow cavity and having a fluid intake end with a threadless bore and a suction inlet communicating with the cavity through the bore, and a diffuser disposed in the casing cavity and spaced from the casing intake end. The diffuser has a threadless opening defined therein leading to an impeller. A venturi nozzle assembly is supported in the casing cavity between the casing intake end and the diffuser. The assembly has threadless opposite end portions disposed in slidably removable slip fitted relation within the casing intake end and diffuser in the respective threadless bore and opening therein. Endless sealing elements preferably in the form of O-rings are fitted about the respective threadless opposite end portions of the venturi nozzle assembly for providing hermetic seals between the assembly opposite end portions and the casing intake end and the diffuser. The venturi nozzle assembly includes a supply and recirculation fluid intake conduit, a venturi tube and a nozzle which are preferably composed of plastic material and fabricated using injection molding techniques.
