摘要： An exhaust silencer includes a housing defining an interior and a tube disposed in the interior and defining an opening. A gas-flow deflector is configured to heat shield an interior wall of the housing from exhaust gases exiting the opening. The deflector has a deflector plate and a riser. The riser has a first portion connected to the interior wall and a second portion connected to a backside of the deflector plate to suspend the deflector plate in the interior such that the backside is completely spaced from the interior wall to form an insulating airgap therebetween.

摘要： The disclosed inventive concept provides a further achievement in efforts to produce a tunable exhaust sound for a vehicle. The system provides a tunable exhaust system including a tunable resonator and a pair of tunable mufflers. The tunable resonator includes a housing including first, second and third expansion chambers. A pair of bank-by-bank exhaust conduits extends through the housing. At least one of the conduits includes a band of peripheral perforations within the first expansion chamber. The band is formed at an angle relative to the long axis of the conduit on which it is formed. The mufflers include inlet and outlet pipes. At least one of the outlet pipes includes a variable exhaust gas flow assembly. The variable exhaust gas flow assembly includes a vane shaft, an exhaust gas regulating vane attached to the vane shaft, and a vane actuator for regulating the position of the vane shaft.

摘要： A snap-action valve assembly for an exhaust system is provided that includes a first conduit and a second conduit that are joined to together to define an exhaust passageway. A valve flap is disposed within the exhaust passageway for controlling exhaust flow. A shaft supports the valve flap in the exhaust passageway for rotation between open and closed positions. First and second bushings support the shaft. A pad made of wire mesh is attached to the valve flap. The pad includes an end portion that contacts the first or second conduit in the closed position and side wings that contact the first or second conduit in the open position. A resilient tongue may support the pad on an angle relative to the valve flap and a mass damper may be attached to one end of the shaft. These features dampen vibration and reduce valve flap flutter.

The AT system also includes an exhaust passage configured to carry the exhaust gas flow from the first AT device to the second AT device. The AT system additionally includes an injector configured to introduce a reductant into the exhaust passage. The second AT device includes an inlet cone having a volute defining a spiral primary path for the exhaust gas flow into the second AT device and configured to generate a swirling motion of and turbulence in the exhaust gas flow. A vehicle employing the AT system is also disclosed.

摘要： A vehicle exhaust system includes an exhaust component having an outer surface and an inner surface that defines an internal exhaust component cavity. At least one hole is formed in the exhaust component to extend through a wall of the exhaust component from the outer surface to the inner surface. A member is formed from a resistive material and is configured to overlap the at least one hole. At least one spacer is configured to space the member away from the inner or outer surface of the exhaust component to create an open cavity between the member and the exhaust component. In one example, an actuator is configured to cover and uncover the member dependent upon an operating characteristic to vary damping.

摘要： A marine muffler adapted with an internally tunable sound suppression structure is adaptable to different configurations thereby allowing for structural adjustments to optimize sound suppression and minimize backpressure for particular engine and exhaust conditions. A muffler housing defines an interior volume and includes an exhaust inlet and outlet. The outlet has a reduced diameter as compared with the inlet such that the exhaust gas accelerates through the muffler. An inclined baffle partitions the interior volume into a lower chamber in communication with the exhaust inlet and an upper chamber in communication with the exhaust outlet. Exhaust ducts attached to each side wall penetrate the baffle thereby placing the upper and lower chambers in fluid communication. A corrugated partition divides each exhaust duct into a plurality of non-circular conduits. The muffler may be tuned by selectively capping one or more conduit outlets.
