    • In a cutting machine (2), including rotatably mounted cutting or shearing tools (19), a loading ramp and a hauling means (4) extend in a direction towards a mine face for receiving and hauling cut or sheared material. The cutting or shearing tools (19) are mounted on a slide which is displaceable on guides extending in the longitudinal direction of the machine. The guides are comprised of tubes or rods connected with a machine flame in the region of the track-laying gears (1), preferably within the track-laying gear frame. The slide is comprised of longitudinal spars (10) and a crossbeam (9) for mounting the cutting or shearing tools (19). The machine frame, at least in its front region adjacent the crossbeam (9), is designed as a box section (3), within the clear width of which the hauling means (4) is guided in a manner so as to be displaceable in the longitudinal direction of the machine.

    • A machine for setting permanent mine-roadway supports is formed by forward and rearward machine parts interconnected by two double-acting advancing rams, and comprises a canopy adapted to carry a horizontal roof bar (or bars) of a permanent mine roadway support to be set in position by the machine, hydraulic displacement means for advancing the canopy towards the roof of the roadway or for retracting the canopy from the roof of the roadway, and preferably two hydraulic rams carried by, or supported from, the canopy and adapted, in use, to act directly below the roof bar to be set and on the upper ends of the two vertical legs which complete the permanent mine roadway support by displacing the upper ends of these legs from an inclined position to a set position in which both legs engage the roof bar advanced by the canopy to the roof.

    • A method and apparatus are provided for installing a mine support (pillar, or pillar and grout bag) in a mine. The following are practiced: Locating a form in the mine where it is desired to provide support, the form being composed of a plurality of engaging parts shaped to produce a pillar when filled with a settable material, and the parts being disengageable to permit subsequent removal. Filling the form with a settable cementitous material and allowing the material to set to produce a pillar in the mine which is cuttable with a coal shearer. And, removing the form. When there is a gap between the top of the pillar and the roof of the mine a bag of yieldable grout is inserted in the gap. After use the support may be removed by cutting through the pillar and the bag of yieldable material, and the form may be reused to make a second pillar.
