    • A simplified pneumatic door control system provides door control operations for opening, closing, stopping and reversing a door. The door control system includes as control inputs a gas source, a pneumatic motor, a first pilot valve, and pressurized manual check valves. The pressurized manually opened check valve may be used to remotely activate the control system. The control system further includes a second pilot valve, limit triggers, and a braking system. A reversing function provides the ability to reverse the direction of the door should the door encounter an obstruction upon closing. A leading edge function further recognizes an obstruction and shifts the closing door into an open sequence. A second embodiment provides a hold to open control scheme, wherein the door travels only while a pressurized check valve is vented. Corresponding methods for controlling the door are also provided.

    • Pressurization of closing and opening chambers of a door operator is controlled by first and second magnet valves coupled to the source of air. These valves are alternately energized by a switching network, e.g., a flip-flop, when sequentially actuated to close and open the door. The second magnet valve is biased to its vent position but the first valve is operated to its vent position by air through a double check valve when the second magnet valve is energized. Emergency and choke valves are inserted in series in the air supply to the magnet valves and normally pass air without restriction. Operation of the emergency valve, e.g., door blocked, shuts off air from the magnet valves and diverts that air to inhibit all output from the switching network and, through the check valve in opposite position, to operate the first magnet valve to vent position. Door operation is halted in position. Shortly the choke valve, because of the venting of both magnet valves, shifts from non-choke to choke position to restrict flow of air when the emergency valve is restored to normal. Restoration of door operation, by switch network actuation at the end of the emergency, is thus initially at a restricted rate.

    • A vehicle door control valve device having a pair of two-way, electro-magnetically operated, pneumatic valve members arranged so that one valve member is operated to a first position, in which compressed air is supplied to one side of a pneumatic actuator that operates the door, while concurrently, a second identical valve member is operated to an opposite position, in which compressed air is exhausted from the other side of the pneumatic door actuator. The relative positions of the respective valve members may be alternately switched to effect door opening and closing. Operation of the valve members is electro-magnetically controlled by primary and secondary coils arranged to cooperate with a permanent magnet, so that only momentary energization of the coils is necessary to effect switching of the valve members. The arrangement is such that in the case of an emergency, opposite sides of the pneumatic door actuator are both de-pressurized to permit manual door operation.
