    • The modular unit for generating solar power comprises a plurality of diamond-shaped cover plates (3.2, . . . , 3.3) for forming a surface trapping sunlight. The cover plates (3.2, 3.3) contain photovoltaic elements (106.1, 106.2, 106.3). The system further comprises a plurality of support rods (54) having a number of pre-manufactured fastening positions (55), said rods being arranged at a predetermined angle>0° to the horizontal and extending in the direction of a line of slope. Every fastening position is associated with a fastening device (50) which connects two corners of the overlapping cover plates (3.2,3.3) to the support rod (54) in the fastening position. The cover plates (3.2, 3.3) are arranged diagonally and so as to overlap in a scale-type fashion with respect to a longitudinal direction of the support rod (54) in such a manner that the surface trapping the sunlight is at the same time rain water-repellent. The cover plates (3.2, 3.3) have a first cut-out section (15.3) in a first corner section and a second cut-out section (20.2) in a diagonally opposite second corner section, in which second cut-out section one of the fastening devices (50) engages. The fastening device (50) holds the first corner section of the first cover plate (3.3) in a first supported position at a first distance to the support rod (54) and the second corner section of the second cover plate (3.2) in a second supported position at a second distance to the support rod (54), the first corner section of the first cover plate (3.3) being interspaced from the second corner section of the second cover plate (3.2) by at least one cover plate thickness.

    • A tile assembly having a plurality of tiles adapted to join in an interlocking and repeating fashion. A plurality of tile assemblies can be joined to each other to form a roof. Each tile assembly includes left and right center tiles positioned side-by-side. Each tile has a generally diamond shaped main surface with vertically spaced upper and lower apices and laterally spaced lateral apices. Two upper flanges extend upwardly and outwardly from the main surface along upper edges and are joined in an upper flange apex. Each center tile includes two lower flanges that extend downwardly and outwardly from the main surface along the lower edges. The tile assembly includes upper and lower tiles of the same configuration. The upper tile fits over the adjacent upper flanges of the two center tiles, and the lower tile fits beneath the adjacent lower flange of the two center tiles.

    • A roofing shingle for mounting to a roof surface which comprises a flat rectangular panel made of metallic sheet material and has top and under sides and side edges. The top side displays along at least two of the side edges a series of dimples defining corresponding bosses on the under side which lie flush with the roof surface. A series of connecting elements have one end mounted to a corresponding boss and an opposite end projecting beyond the side edges for being connected to the roof surface. The shingle includes locating means on its top and under sides for positioning the shingle with a corresponding like shingle to define an overlapping region therebetween. A roof covering using these roofing shingles which are interconnected and staggered along the roof surface with their respective under sides substantially parallel to one another and in close contact at the overlapping region.
