    • A screen and a method for screening pulp. The screen comprises a body, a screen cylinder arranged inside the body for screening the pulp, and an accept chamber and an accept aggregate connected with it for removing the accepted pulp fraction from the screen. The accept chamber is arranged between the screening surface of the screen cylinder and the screen body and it is arranged to expand in the radial direction of the screen cylinder outwards from the screen cylinder continuously in the longitudinal direction of the screen cylinder towards the line which is parallel to the radius of the screen cylinder and corresponds to the cross-section of the body and on which the accept aggregate is arranged.

    • A system for screening fluid-borne material from a fluid that carries particulate matter along with the material, e.g. for screening usable fibers in papermaking or tissue making white water that also contains waste material such as fines and ash. The system employs a flexible and pliable screen to which the fluid is applied. The screen is supported in a suspended manner from a frame. The fluid is directed onto an inside surface defined by the screen, and the location at which the fluid strikes the screen is varied so as to result in bending and flexing of the screen due to the flexibility and pliability of the screen material. In this manner, the configuration of the screen drainage passages is continuously altered, to provide a self-cleaning action that prevents the screen passages from plugging or blinding over. In one form, the screen is generally frustoconical, and the fluid is applied to the inside surface of the screen in a manner which results in rotation of the screen. The material retained on the screen is directed toward a discharge opening defined by the lower end of the frustoconical screen, and the waste water including the particulate matter passes through the screen and is collected in a waste water collection tank. In another form, the screen is suspended from a frame to form a trough configuration having an open discharge end. The frame is movable in either an axial direction or a transverse direction, to cause movement of the screen and to obtain the desired flexing and bending of the screen to self-clean the screen drainage passages.

    • A two stage pulp screening device is disclosed of particular use as a high capacity unit replacing two separate units. The device has an upper pulp screening chamber and a lower pulp screening chamber, the lower chamber has a stationary cylindrical screen with a streamlined rotor mounted therein for rotation about a vertical axis. The upper chamber has a further stationary cylindrical screen with at least one foil cleaning bar mounted therein for rotation about the same vertical axis. In the upper chamber around the further screen is a stationary inlet baffle which forms an annular space between the screen and the baffle. In this space is at least one helical baffle which forms a spiral passage descending beside the screen. A reject discharge is provided in the lower portion of the annular space for removing all rejects and pulp slurry that has not passed through the screen.

    • Screening apparatus having a valve in the rejects conduit controlling the discharge of material therethrough. The valve includes a plurality of chambers separated by a wall containing one or more openings of smaller cross section than the chambers and is rotatably driven at a predetermined speed by a drive motor to alternately connect each chamber to the upstream portion of the rejects conduit while the other chamber is connected to the downstream portion of such conduit. The drive motor is reversible to automatically reverse the direction of rotation of the valve in the event that the latter, during rotation in either rotary direction, becomes jammed by rejected material; and a valve in the inlet conduit of the screening apparatus is automatically closed when the first-mentioned valve is not in operation.
