    • An apparatus for processing fiber suspensions containing usable fibers and suspended dirt particles to be separated from the usable fibers, the specific weight of the particles differing distinctly from that of the usable fibers, is described. The apparatus comprises a drum-shaped outer housing having (i) and inflow end accommodating a body rotationally symmetric to the housing axis and being provided with a tangential inlet pipe for the fiber suspension to be processed, and (ii) an outflow end being provided with an axial outlet pipe for a lightweight dirt component of the suspension and an outlet pipe for a usable component of the suspension. In order to also separate a heavy dirt component of the suspension, and to minimize cost due to wear, the housing and the outlet pipe for the usable component are stationary, the rotationally symmetrical body is a rotor rotationally drivable about the housing axis, and a separating wall rotationally symmetrical with the housing axis is provided for defining an outer annular chamber between the circumferential housing wall and the separating wall. The annular chamber is open at its one end facing the rotor and is provided at its other end with a radial outlet pipe for heavy dirt particles. The separating wall further circumscribes an inner annular chamber circumscribing the outlet pipe for the lightweight dirt component, and the outlet pipe for the usable component opens into the inner annular chamber.

    • Apparatus for separating steam from a mixture of steam and fibers is disclosed, comprising an elongated feeding compartment having an inlet and a feeding device for feeding a mixture through the inlet. The feeding device comprises a tubular section which is curved such that the mixture in the tubular section is separated under the influence of centrifugal forces in a heavy steam-less fraction of fibers in a outer layer and in a light fiber-free fraction of steam in a inner layer. The tubular section is arranged in such a way that a heavy fraction of fibers is fed through the inlet peripherally. The separated light fraction of steam is fed against the center of the compartment and removed through an outlet of the apparatus.

    • The invention concerns a method and an equipment for combining in one single apparatus, the functions for filtering, decontaminating, and thickening paper pulp from used paper, while providing the complementary function of clarifying the filtrates. The apparatus (1) rotates at high speed. The paper pulp is introduced through the center of the apparatus (2) and driven at its angular speed. The pulp is then brought along a grate (6) with small size holes for separating the fibers from the greater part of the water. The thickened pulp is evacuated through extraction nozzles (8). The water is clarified in the clarification zone (12) and recycled or eliminated depending on uses. More complete embodiments of the apparatus include the functions of fractionating, de-inking and purifying the pulp with slots or holes.

    • Effective separation of unwanted particles, such as tramp material, is effected from a paper pulp suspension (typically a medium consistency suspension, e.g. having a consistency between 5-15 percent). A generally annular opening is defined by a disc connected to a rotating shaft, and a ring stationarily mounted to a housing. The housing includes a pulp inlet, a pulp outlet, an inlet chamber, and an outlet chamber, with a separated-out particles outlet communicating with the inlet chamber, preferably extending downwardly from it. A rotating element having a plurality of generally radially extending projections, is also mounted on the shaft, adjacent the disc, and the projections cover the annular opening (radially spanning it) at spaced locations along its circumference. The projections may be teeth-like structures, or pegs, and preferably have their leading edges, viewed in the direction of rotation, sloping with respect to the radial direction. A plurality of vanes are also connected to the shaft in the outlet chamber. The shaft rotates at such a speed that fluidization of the pulp by the rotating element takes place. Not only are particles having their largest dimension equal to or greater than the radial dimension of the annular opening separated-out, but also particles that are considerably smaller than that.

    • An apparatus for separating undesired particles from a suspension flow of pulp and for dividing the suspension flow into fractions is described. The apparatus comprises a housing having a first chamber with an inlet for the suspension flow and a first outlet for the undesired particles, a second chamber with a second outlet and communicating with the first chamber through a first annular gap, and a third chamber with a third outlet and communicating with the second chamber through a second annular gap, the radial extension of the second gap being less than that of the first gap. First and second rotating discs are carried by a shaft for common rotation therewith. The first disc is disposed in the first chamber in front of the first gap to separate the undesired particles by means of teeth protruding from the first disc. The second disc is disposed in the second chamber in front of the second gap to remove, by means of teeth protruding from the second disc, particles in form of twigs, undissolved fiber bundles and any remaining undesired particles from the suspension flow in front of the second gap. The discs have cavities axially aligned with the first and second gaps, respectively, to form axial passages, said second disc and said second gap cooperating to divide the suspension flow into a coarse fraction which is removed through the second outlet and a finer fraction which passes through said second annular gap and is removed through the third outlet.
