    • A method for tripping safety gear of an elevator, at a speed lower than a gripping speed of the elevator may include: slowing a rope sheave of an overspeed governor of the elevator using a device adapted to slow the rope sheave; disconnecting an actuator connected to the overspeed governor from movement of the rope sheave when the device slows the rope sheave; and tripping the safety gear in an overspeed situation using a rope driving the overspeed governor via the rope sheave. An appliance for tripping safety gear of an elevator may include: an overspeed governor; a rope sheave of the overspeed governor; a device adapted to slow the rope sheave; and an actuator connected to the overspeed governor that is arranged to disconnect from movement of the rope sheave when the device adapted to slow the rope sheave acts to slow the movement of the rope sheave.

    • Method and system for detecting and stopping uncontrolled movement of the car (1) in an elevator. In the method movement of the car is detected with the first movement detection means (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) when the brake (8) of the drive machinery (7) is in the braking status with the purpose of holding the car in its position without moving. A first control signal is formed if the car moves in the aforementioned situation. Movement of the car is stopped on the basis of the first control signal with a separate stopping appliance (9) with respect to the brake of the drive machinery. The operating condition of the first movement detection means are tested with the second movement detection means (10, 11, 12) during driving of the car in order to detect a fault situation. A second control signal is formed for the elevator control when a fault situation is detected, in which case the elevator control drives the car to the next stopping floor and prevents the subsequent run of the car.

    • In this overspeed governor, an overspeed condition causes, by way of coupling elements (15,15'), a brake (5) comprised in the overspeed governor to engage a rope pulley (3) which, due to friction, brakes the rope driving the rope pulley itself and thus triggers the safety gear of the elevator. In the invention, the rotation of at least one coupling element (15,15') provided in the overspeed governor and rotating with it is braked by a frictional force which is applied to a braking point (31,32) on the coupling element (15,15'). The combined effect of the braking action and the rotation of the overspeed governor turns the coupling element (15,15') into a position in which the brake (5) is activated so as to engage the rope pulley (3).

    • The present disclosure describes apparatuses, methods and systems for determining the speed at which an elevator or hoist overspeed device is activated, and for calibrating and certifying overspeed devices. A testing apparatus may comprise a test pinion which engages with the brake pinion of an overspeed; a test shaft coupled to the test pinion; a motor for rotating the test shaft; a controller for operating the motor; and a mounting bracket for holding the overspeed device in place. A recording apparatus may comprise a detector configured to detect when the rotation of the test pinion has caused the centrifugal weight of the overspeed to be displaced, and to determine the speed of the motor at that time; a memory for storing information relating to the motor; and a processor configured to perform calculations relating to the operation and speed of the motor.
