    • A binding apparatus has a switching flapper 15 switching a feed path for feeding papers to either an upper discharge port or a lower discharge port, a discharge roller 20 provided on the upper discharge port, and a shutter 13, a stapler 14 and a discharge roller 12 provided on the lower discharge port. The discharge roller 12 can feed the papers in a direction opposite to a general paper feed direction, and the shutter 13 stops the papers on a specified position and positions the same when the papers are fed in the opposite direction. The stapler 14 staples the positioned papers. The discharge roller 12 presses the papers against the shutter 13, registers the papers, and discharges the papers in the general paper feed direction after the papers are stapled. Consequently, a miniature paper binding apparatus having a simple structure can be provided.

    • A bi-directionally vertically bin indexed multi-bin sheet sorter, for a fixed position sheet output, such as a copier or printer, with a sheet edge alignment registration jogging system for tamping sheets which are in the immediately previously loaded bins directly above or below the bin being loaded (the bin adjacent the fixed sheet output) concurrently with that bin being loaded but without interfering with the feeding of the sheet into that bin. A single jogging system is stationarily mounted adjacent the sheet output to intermittently horizontally move a jogging member (which extends vertically alongside all three of these adjacent sorter bins) into the above and below bins for tamping sheets therein towards a registration position, such as a corner stapling position, but is configured to not extend into the sheet feeding path and to not tamp sheets in the bin being loaded. It may be a thin, lightweight, flexible, flag-shaped member with two active tamping surface portions separated by a central missing portion in the area of the bin being loaded.

    • Image forming apparatus including a sheet finish-processing unit for finish-processing sheets discharged from a copying machine to which the unit is laterally positioned and stored thereby into a plurality of stacks. A sheet stack finish-processing mechanism of the unit, incorporating a stapler, is shiftable by an associated drive mechanism in the widthwise direction along the adjacent end of a positioned stack in storage. A sheet stack handling mechanism therein draws the end of the positioned stack into a finishing locale of the finish-processing mechanism, and subsequent to a finishing (stapling) operation, returns the finished sheet stack into storage. Thereupon, the stack is transversely discharged frontward of the image forming apparatus from storage, during which operation a subsequent finishing operation is concurrently executable; by such discharge a number of copy stacks greater than the number of stacking storages can be processed. The stacks are linearly inserted into and withdrawn from the finish-processing mechanism, eliminating the need for complex movements thereof, and allowing the finish-processing mechanism to be functional at a number of linear positions along the stack end margin. Furthermore, the sheet stacks are discharged to the apparatus front, wherein they are readily accessible for removal by an operator.

    • A finishing apparatus for receiving and attaching sets of sheet material in succession. A movable bin array including plurality of bins are provided for receiving the sheet in each individual bin. Rollers are provided for transporting a copy sheet to the finishing apparatus to one of each individual bin. Registration of the sheet is accomplished by the uphill nature of the each individual bin in the bin array sloping towards a registering portion of a gate assembly, and the action of a tamper mechanism registers the sheets. A stapling means having a cam that is radially urged moves in a plane substantially parallel to the orientation of the the bin array. The action of the cam drives the stapler means into a notched area of each individual bin positioned thereat so that registered sheet sets therein may be stapled in the notched area. The action of the stapler means also opens the gate on an adjacent bin so that a retaining gate on each individual bin are moved to an output of the way position enabling sheet sets therein to slide off each individual bin onto a guide support and into the output tray.

    • The present invention relates to a sheet post treatment apparatus aligning, within certain limits, discharged sheets received in said bin tray and drastically reduces the driving load of the motor, operating space and manufacturing costs through keeping the length of the aligning rod as short as possible for transferring sheets. The apparatus comprises a driving gear connected to a power driving motor and output gear engaged with said driving gear; transfer shaft equipped at one side of said bin tray; feed roller attached to said transfer shaft and comprised of multiple projections around the circumference thereof; flexible push rod contacted to said feed roller and formed with multiple guide holes at the central part thereof; receiving housing installed between said side plate and transfer shaft and formed with a receiving groove; aligning rod positioned in the slot part of said bin tray and one end part of said flexible push rod is inserted and fixed at one side thereof; and a light sensor for controlling the level of moving displacement of said flexible push rod.
