The plurality of processing stations are arranged one after another in a transport direction of the sheets for in-line processing of the sheets. At least one of the processing stations is configured as a non-impact printing device. A transfer device, which is arranged upstream of the active region of the non-impact printing device, is provided for transferring the sheets from a first processing station, which is arranged upstream of the non-impact printing device, to the non-impact printing device. The transfer device aligns, in each case, at least one of the axial register and the circumferential register and the diagonal register of each of the sheets in register relative to the printing position of the non-impact printing device.

The transport member has an operative surface with an arcuate trailing surface, forming an air gap between the operative surface and the print media. An air clamp controls air flow in the air gap. The transport member includes three sections with the second section located between the first and third sections. The roller, having a diameter and rotational axis, includes three sections with the second section located between the first and third section and corresponding to the sections of the transport member. The diameter of the roller in the first and third sections is greater than in the second section. The transport member causes the print media, after leaving the transport member, to contact the first and third sections of the roller prior to contacting the second section of the roller.

The stimulable phosphor sheet can smoothly and reliably be removed from the cassette while the suction cups are effectively prevented from being deformed.
