    • A device for adjusting a position of two film rolls so as to align the two film rolls with each other in laminators is disclosed. A shaft holder engages with one end of a housing and movably receives one end of a roll shaft. A connection bolt, having a head and an externally-threaded shank provided with a woodruff key, engages with the other end of the housing from the inside to the outside of the housing, with the head being positioned inside the housing and the shank partially projecting from the housing. A bearing is set in the head of the connection bolt and holds the roll shaft passing though the shaft holder. An annular setting lever engages with the shank of the connection bolt at a position outside the housing. An adjusting handle is fitted over the woodruff key of the connection bolt. The above handle has a radial screw hole, with a wrench bolt being movably screwed into the screw hole so as to removably fix the handle to the woodruff key of the connection bolt.

    • A paper roll conveying and orienting system for a paper processing unwinding system comprises a conveyor which is displaceable in a conveying direction extending parallel to a receiving axis. A loading plate for receiving a paper roll is arranged on the conveyor. The loading plate is disposed displaceably in a horizontal plane transversely to the receiving axis and/or pivotally round a vertical pivot axis. The unwinding system is allocated an orienting device which can be brought into engagement with the loading plate in its position before the unwinding system. The orienting device has at least one drive for displacing the loading plate transversely to the pivot axis and/or for pivoting the loading plate round the vertical pivot axis.

    • An unwind stand for positioning and controlling the unwinding of large paper rolls to processing machines is mounted on wheels riding on rails and motor driven through hydraulic motor to providing gripping and longitudinal movement of the rolls. Swinging gripping arms are mounted on the stand and disposed to grip the ends of the roll and raise it above the floor and hold it in position and provides for unwinding. The arms are capable of longitudinal movement along the axis of the roll, either individually or simultaneously, for flexibility in picking up the roll and locating it into operating position. A device is provided for final axial adjustment in alignment with the processing machine in a transverse direction and a device for gripping the rails to hold the machine in a fixed position and to prevent its tipping over. The entire stand and all its functioning elements is operated from a platform located on a cab in which are positioned various control elements for operation of the hydraulic components of the stand.

    • A lateral positioner and adjust mechanism is provided for an unwind station of a web press. The unwind station includes first and second arms pivotally mounted to a frame that cooperate for supporting for rotation a roll on a shaft. The arms can be raised and lowered to raise and lower the roll. In the subject mechanism, a wheel is mounted to a first end of the shaft extending beyond the first supporting arm, the wheel defining in its periphery a groove having opposing side walls. Each of the side walls defines an outward bevel. A block attached to the first arm defines thereon a ridge extending upwardly perpendicular to the shaft, the ridge having opposing side walls, each of which includes a bevel. The ridge is fittable within the groove. The block can be selectively moved toward and away from the first arm in a direction parallel to the shaft. As the roll shaft is raised into position, the ridge and groove engage, moving the shaft into correct lateral position. During operation of the press, lateral movement of the block will provide lateral adjustment of the roll.

    • A method of mounting narrower paper rolls for unwinding on a pair of stub chucks spaced for mounting and unwinding full width paper rolls and carried by arms of a pair of multiple reel stands includes providing a narrower paper roll wound on a tubular core assembly having a hollow cylindrical core member and an annular end member of metal or plastic within each opposite end portion of the core member. The end members are removed from the core member, and the core member is mounted at a desired longitudinal location on a full length shaft having opposite ends engageable with the stub chucks. Core member engaging devices are provided to enable the core member to be secured in the desired longitudinal location and to transmit rotational torque from the shaft to the core member. The full length shaft with the narrower paper roll thereon is then mounted on the stub chucks. A narrower paper roll can thus be mounted on multiple reel stands whose stub chucks are spaced for full width paper rolls without interrupting the unwinding operation of another paper roll mounted on the multiple reel stands.

    • An infeed mechanism coacts with a splicer mechanism for splicing successive rolls of web and for feeding the continuous web thus obtained into a rotary press or the like via a web storage mechanism, which normally stores therein a predetermined length of the web for delivery to the press or the like during splicing operation. The infeed mechanism includes a pair of roll holder arms carrying on their opposite ends an old web roll, from which the web is being delivered to the press or the like, and a new web roll to be spliced to the old web. Toward the end of the web delivery from the old web roll the roll holder arms are turned through a preassigned angle, with the result that the web from the old web roll travels close to the periphery of the new web roll. Then the new web roll is revolved about its own axis until an adhesive region thereon comes opposite to the old web. Then, with the rotation of the old web roll arrested, a brush of a retractable splicer mechanism presses the old web against the adhesive region on the new web roll. Preferably an excess length of the old web behind the adhesive region is subsequently cut off by a cutter included in the splicer mechanism. Then the web delivery from the new web roll is started. The complete operation can be automated.
