摘要： In a recording medium transporting mechanism, a flange member is attached on either side of a roll paper and the flange member has a diameter smaller than a maximum outer diameter of a roll paper. Support rollers support a corresponding one of the flange members in a rotatable manner. The support rollers are moveable along the axis of rotation of the roll paper. The sum of an outer diameter of corresponding one of the flange members and the support rollers is greater than a maximum outer diameter of the roll paper. A rewinding roller of at least a length equivalent to a distance between both sets of support rollers when the sets of support rollers are farthest apart is engaged with a support roller within the set of support rollers and can rotate the flange member in a rewinding direction over a desired amount of continuous time.

摘要： An apparatus and method whereby two superposed strips (26, 28) of documents are conveyed in a direction of conveyance (30) toward a downstream workstation. The strips (26, 28) are conveyed over one another in a direction of superposition whereby the leading edges of documents of one strip alternate in sequence in the direction of conveyance with the leading edges of documents in the other strip. A determination and control (190) circuit determines whether the leading edges of documents in one strip are tending to creep up on the leading edges of documents in the other strip due to differing speeds of motion of the two strips. If a creeping condition is determined, the circuit (190) energizes brake (400) whereby the motion of at least one of the strips is at least temporarily retarded. The circuit (190) comprises a detector (188) for determining when leading ones of documents have been separated from their respective strips; timing pulse generator (200); counter selector (206) for selectively enabling a first counter (202) and a second counter (204) to count timing pulses (the counters (202, 204) being enabled in alternating fashion after documents are separated in alternating strip fashion from their strips); and, comparator (207) for comparing the counts in the two counters. The detector (188) detects leading edges and trailing edges of separated documents conveyed past it. The counters are enabled to count when the trailing edge of a preceding separated document is detected and are disabled when the leading edge of a just-separated document is detected. The control circuit (190) periodically deenergizes the brake for a time period extending from the time at which the leading edge of a just-separated document is detected until the time at which the trailing edge of the just-separated document is detected.

摘要： A magnetic braking apparatus is integrally attached with a load detector such as an arm-like load cell through an attachment member, an outer fin, or a rotary joint between a yoke body and a stationary portion of an outside construction or facility thereby to form a magnetic braking apparatus having a function of load detection. A tension control system incorporates the magnetic braking apparatus with the load detector attached thereto to apply a braking force to a let-off reel. A controller in the tension control system calculates a roll diameter of the let-off reel based on a number of rotations detected by a rotation detector and a number of pulses generated in one rotation of the let-off reel, and generates a control signal representative of a desired braking torque which corresponds to the calculated roll diameter. The controller further receives from the load detector of the magnetic braking apparatus, a feedback signal representative of an actual braking force applied to the let-off reel, and the controller calculates an error signal between the desired braking torque signal and the feedback signal. The error signal is applied to the magnetic braking apparatus to excite the same. Thus, the accuracy of tension control is improved.

摘要： Disclosed herein is a method of tensioning a web packaging material in a form-fill-seal packaging apparatus wherein the web is pulled from a supply roll through web feeding rolls, guided over means for forming it into tubing and fed toward means for feeding the tubing forward, and wherein articles to be packaged are provided in the tubing and sealing operations are performed on the tubing to seal it to form packages. The invention method is characterized in that the web feeding rolls and the tubing feeding means are concurrently started, and when the web feeding rolls and the tubing feeding means are stopped to form a seal on the tubing, the tubing feeding means is stopped slightly later than the web feeding rolls so that the web forward by the web feeding rolls is taken up and pulled toward the tubing feeding means under tension. Another method is disclosed for tensioning a web between the supply roll and the web feeding rolls, wherein a suitable braking is applied to the rotating supply roll so that the web fed forward by the feeding rolls is taken up under tension.
