    • A transport device for the controllable conveying of transport containers from a loading station to an unloading station with a preferably horizontally oriented, continuously rotating transport device in the form of a transport wheel is provided. The transport containers are suspended at a carrier that engages and disengages the transport wheel. With the transport wheel it is possible to compensate for different operating speeds of the machines that are interconnected by the transport wheel, so that an automated and continuous operating mode with little operating expenditure is provided. The transport wheel serves also as a storage unit for a packing unit arranged at the unloading station which may be operated continuously during shut-down periods of the preceding machine.

    • An automated inspection system for identifying geometric or electromagnetic characteristics of parts includes a rotary feeder that arranges bulk parts in a single-file stream on its rim. A first deflector mechanism is connected to the feeder for providing predetermined minimum spacing between the parts on the rim. The first deflector mechanism includes, for example, a detector for detecting parts travelling on the rim, a gate for diverting parts from the rim when the spacing between consecutive parts is less than the predetermined minimum spacing, and an actuator responsive to signals from the detector to selectively pivot the gate. Further, the inspection system includes an inspection device for inspecting parts fed by the feeder means past the deflector mechanism.

    • An overflow or accumulator table for use with items to be processed to receive on its operating surface, and discharge therefrom, a plurality of containers or other items. The accumulator table is suitable for use with items being moved along a conveyor line. The accumulator table has a turntable surface and is capable of maximizing the number of containers or other items which may be supported on the turntable. A pair of spaced, spring-loaded, arcuate guiding members is supported above the turntable surface in a manner so as to occupy a negligible amount of space while providing a sufficiently strong, radially outwardly directed force to urge the containers or other items to the periphery of the turntable surface to assure that all items will be discharged therefrom.

    • A pallet changer having additional distribution and storage functions for a manufacturing plant having a central control station, transfer stations at the conveying and storage part of the installation and address readers. The pallet changer comprises a rotatable part capable of rotating about a vertical axis and having pallet guides and pallet feed devices for pallets equipped with switching markers. The rotatable part can be rotated into four fixed change positions offset by about 90.degree. with respect to one another for changing the pallets at one, two or three transfer stations and at one or two machine tools. Rotation of the rotatable part is accomplished as a function of programmes infed to the central control station and by means of four non-rotatably arranged address readers dispositioned at a spacing of about 90.degree. from one another and with the same spacing from the axis of rotation. The address readers are activated by the address switching markers of the pallets inserted onto the pallet guides.
