    • A hydraulic brake gear motor with a brake mechanism to operate a roll tarp for use with an open top container. A motor-driven rollable cover is attached to and wrappable about a reel to selectively cover contents of the container. The hydraulic gear motor operates with a brake mechanism to lock and hold a position of the motor. A secondary brake mechanism may include a hydraulic piston that selectively engages a holding brake with a hex connector. A hydraulic motor may include a port path for flow of fluid to internal meshing gears and a braking mechanism with a plunger that clamps and holds the meshing gears when hydraulic fluid is not flowing. A transmission having rolling gears can be operated by the hydraulic motor with such brake mechanisms. The motor and brake mechanisms are preferably hydraulically operated with an existing system of a trailer or rail car.

    • An improved rail car is pulled by an engine for transporting coal or other porous dust bearing materials. The car has opposing long sidewalls and opposing shorter end walls, which together define an initially open interior, a bottom and an open top. The open top of the car is covered by at least one pair of main doors in the form of opposing hinged A-frame sections which are pivotable between a closed, transport position and an open loading position which exposes the rail car interior for loading. The A-frame sections also have longitudinally spaced edges which are spaced apart to form a discharge door opening. A discharge door is located in each of the discharge door opening and is pivotally hinged within the respective door opening so that it opens under the influence of gravity in a rotary dumping operation. The discharge doors, together with the A-frame sections, form a door-within-a-door operating configuration.

    • A cover opening and closing system for use with a railcar. The railcar has a longitudinal axis, a top opening and at least one movable cover configured to cover the opening. The cover opening and closing system includes at least one structural support coupled generally to the ground and at least one of an opening device and a closing device. The opening device and closing device are coupled to said at least one structural support. The at least one of an opening device and a closing device are configured to contact a portion of the at least one movable cover and to cause the movable cover to move as the railcar moves in a longitudinal direction substantially parallel with the longitudinal axis.

    • Systems and methods for powered rail car doors are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system includes a first door assembly operable to at least partially cover an opening of a rail car. The system also includes an actuator. A first common linkage is coupled to the actuator and is operable to reciprocally move in a longitudinal direction relative to the actuator. In particular embodiments, a first secondary linkage is coupled to the first common linkage and is coupled to an exterior surface of the first door assembly, wherein the first secondary linkage cooperates with the first common linkage to move the first door assembly between an open position and a closed position over the top hatch of the rail car.
