    • An occupant detection system and method that uses an isolation assembly to isolate electrically a power supply providing power to a heater element for heating a vehicle seat from a sensing circuit that uses the heater element as an electrode for electric field or capacitance type occupant detection. The isolation assembly includes a common mode choke that by itself provides sufficient isolation when the sensing circuit excitation signal frequency is high enough, and provides switches that infrequently interrupt electrical power to the heater element so a humidity level can be determined using a relatively low excitation signal frequency. Knowing the humidity level is desirable to adjust a threshold use to determine if the sensing circuit indicates that the seat is empty, or is occupied.

    • A child car seat for a land vehicle comprises a support for supporting at least a part of a body of a child, the support being positionable on a vehicle seat of the land vehicle and a restraint for holding the body in position relative to the support. A data processing unit forms when in operational mode and connected to an in-vehicle data communication network in the land vehicle, a child car seat network node in the in-vehicle data communication network. The seat includes a first network connector for establishing, in cooperation with a matching second network connector, a data communication connection between the child car seat network node and the in-vehicle data communication network. The child car seat has a signal carrier connecting the data processing unit to the first network connector.

    • An occupant detection apparatus includes an electrostatic capacitance type sensor having a main electrode, a sub electrode and a guard electrode, an impedance measurement device that outputs an alternating current signal to measure an impedance, and an occupant discrimination device that discriminates an occupant.The guard electrode is provided oppositely to main electrode and not oppositely to the sub electrode. The impedance measurement device outputs an alternating current signal to pass the signal through the main electrode so as to measure a main impedance. Further, the impedance measurement device outputs the alternating current signal to pass the signal through sub electrode so as to measure a sub impedance. The occupant discrimination device discriminates the occupant based on an electrostatic capacitance component of the main impedance and a resistance value component of the sub impedance.
