    • A wheel lifting block apparatus includes a climbing block such as of rubber having a block abutting surface for placement against a tire tread and has a block traction surface facing outwardly from the tire tread; and block securing means for mounting the block on the circumferential tread surface of a tire after the tire has become embedded in a depression in a viscous surface to grip the viscous surface while lifting the tire relative to the viscous surface so that tire rotation causes the tire to climb out of the depression and advance to stable terrain. The block securing means preferably includes a strap slot extending through the block; and a strap having first and second strap ends and passing through the strap slot and having a length sufficient so that the first and second strap ends can wrap around a segment of a tire and through an opening in a vehicle wheel.

    • A wheel apparatus includes a hub that is configured to be received by an axle of an irrigation system. The wheel apparatus also includes a rim assembly that includes a plurality of substantially flat feet that form a faceted circular arrangement. A support structure is disposed between the hub and the rim assembly to at least partially support the rim assembly. At least one of the substantially flat feet is coupled to at least one of the plurality of spoke structures. The wheel apparatus also includes at least one cleat disposed on an outside surface of at least one of the plurality of substantially flat feet to provide traction to the rim assembly.

    • A wheel hub assembly having a rim, an outer cap and an inner body joined to the cap within the rim and carrying automatically extendable and retractable curved traction elements. The traction elements are curved pieces with inner end portions disposed on the inside of the tire when retracted and outer ends substantially concealed in gaps between the rim and the cap when retracted, and extendable into active positions overlying the tread of the tire by electric motors each driving two rack-and-pinion drives through T-drives between two traction elements. Channel-shaped tracks and guide rollers on the hub base support the fraction elements, which have traction-enhancing ribs and studs on their outer end portions. An alternative embodiment has a hollow annular hub body on which the traction elements are mounted and guided, in two circular slots, with the motors inside the annular body, the body being supported on a framework to be bolted to the central hub element of a conventional wheel.
