摘要： A device for producing dunnage includes a jam detector. The detector is mounted on an outlet chute that receives dunnage produced by a dunnage mechanism of the device. The detector is sensitive to detect a dunnage jam within the outlet chute, and is associated with the dunnage mechanism to cause the dunnage mechanism to stop driving the dunnage into the outlet chute when a jam is detected.

The converting station converts a line of high-density supply material into low-density dunnage and ejects the dunnage at an exit in an exit trajectory along a path. The deflector is repositionable with respect to the exit between a first position, in which the deflector is interposed in the path to deflect the path of the dunnage from the exit trajectory to a first deflected trajectory, and a second position. The deflector is retained in each position during the ejection of the dunnage.

The drive mechanism may include a roller with an outer surface having a first shape, and another roller having an outer surface with a second shape different than the first shape. The dunnage conversion machine also may include a cutting mechanism that includes an anvil having a curvilinear surface, and a cutting portion, with the anvil and the cutting portion being configured to cut the dunnage. The dunnage conversion machine also may include an inlet chute configured to feed the stock material to the dunnage conversion machine. The inlet chute may include a protrusion located within an interior channel of the inlet chute and configured to restrict larger objects, such as the fingers and hands of an operator, from moving down the interior channel.

摘要： A dunnage conversion machine (36) converts a sheet stock material into a dunnage product that is relatively thicker and less dense than the stock material, but is relatively thin and sufficiently flexible to function as a protective wrap. The conversion machine includes a feed mechanism (40) that advances a sheet stock material therethrough and a connecting mechanism (42) downstream of the feed mechanism. The connecting mechanism retards the passage of the sheet stock material therethrough by feeding the stock material therethrough at a slower rate than the feed mechanism feeds the stock material to the connecting mechanism. This causes the stock material to randomly crumple in a longitudinal space between the feed mechanism and the connecting mechanism. The connecting mechanism connects multiple overlapping layers of sheet stock material together as they pass therethrough, including connecting at least one crumpled sheet to one side of one other sheet.

Specifically, the system provides for the crumpling of paper substrates to form fill material to be utilized in product packaging to fill void space and/or to wrap around products thereby allowing for safe transport of the products. The apparatus includes a feeder for feeding sheeting material, a first roller connected to a drive mechanism, a second roller disposed adjacent said first roller wherein said sheeting material travels between the first roller and the second roller and further wherein the second roller pushes said sheeting material against said first roller to engage the sheeting material with the first roller, and a third roller connected to the drive mechanism for directing said sheeting material out of said apparatus.
