摘要： A composite structure includes a first face sheet, a second face sheet, and a foam member located between the first face sheet and the second face sheet. The foam member has a molded contour, the mold contour being configured to provide tooling surface for at least one of the first face sheet and the second face sheet prior to curing of the composite structure. A method of making the foam member includes creating a mold tool having an interior surface which resembles the desired outer contour of the foam member. A mixture is poured into a pour opening in the mold tool. The mixture is allowed to polymerize into a foam as the foam expands and distributes within the mold tool. Vent openings in the mold tool are selectively tailored to control the density of the foam member. The foam member is cured in the mold tool.

摘要： This invention relates to extruded composite materials specifically focusing on the increasing load bearing capacity and the overall strength of composites. Injectable conformable structural core materials are used to replace foam cells inside extruded composite materials thereby increasing the overall load bearing stability and strength. The core materials are tailored to have a desired CTE with respect to the structural materials. The core materials may also incorporate fibers and solid structural fillers for increasing the strength of the composite member. The objective is to enable composite materials to have the highest structural load bearing capability possible so that these technologies can be used as the replacement of wood, in aerospace applications and for other purposes.

摘要： A process and apparatus for insertion of a stuffer plug (18) within a hollow section of a automotive weatherseal extrudate (10) is provided which operates by insertion of a needlelike section (20) of a dispenser unit through a wall of the extrudate into the hollow section. A stuffer plug precursor is then injected or inserted into the hollow section and the needle-like section of the dispenser is removed. The stuffer plug precursor (22) then forms a stuffer plug (18) within the hollow section. Preferably, the stuffer plug is a two part polyurethane which reacts chemically to form a polyurethane foam stuffer plug (18) within the hollow section. An easier method for establishing a stuffer plug (18) within an extrudate (10) is provided.
