    • A striking tool having a contoured hollow handle and a head rigidly attached to the hollow handle. In a preferred embodiment, the striking tool is a hammer and the handle is fabricated by welding together matching molded sheet aluminum handle halves. A receiving nut is welded at a top end of the handle and a hammer head is attached to the handle with a bolt threaded through the receiving nut. In this embodiment the aluminum sheet is only approximately 0.063 inches thick so the hammer handle is very light. A rigid rib that extends through the hollow portion of the hollow handle provides additional strength.

The two units (230, 232) can be held, by at least one latching and/or frictionally locking connection, in the position in which they are pushed one inside the other to provide the hand-held unit (200), and can be released from one another by hand. Consequently, for the connection of the two units (230, 232), there is no need for any additional shaping or parts which obstruct the combined or separate handling of the units.

    • A threaded snap-fit coupling assembly is provided for use in attaching a handle to an implement, such as a paint brush, paint pad, light bulb changer, cleaning brush or the like. The assembly includes an adaptor provided with a cylindrical receptacle and a male fastening member that is externally threaded and sized for threaded receipt in a threaded opening of the implement so that the adaptor may be connected to the implement. The assembly also includes a coupling provided with a first end that is retained on the handle, and a cylindrical male portion that is externally threaded and sized for threaded receipt in the opening of the implement and for sliding receipt within the receptacle of the adaptor. The coupling is retained on the adaptor via a snap-fit connection when the male portion of the coupling is received in the receptacle of the adaptor. This connection permits removal of the coupling from the adaptor when the coupling is pulled from the receptacle with a force sufficient to overcome the holding force of the snap-fit connection.

    • A handle for use in connection with tool tangs of a wide variety of sizes and shapes includes a handle body molded of a plastic material and formed with a main blind bore whose end wall is formed with a centering bore of smaller diameter. The main blind bore serves for receiving tapering tangs of largest cross section, or a tubular insert. The insert has a first axial bore opening at one end of the insert and a second axial blind bore opening at the other end of the insert. The end walls of the first and second blind bores are interconnected by a passsage of reduced diameter. The jacket of the insert is split by an axially directed slot so as to facilitate plugging of the insert into the main blind bore in the handle body. The inner surface of the main blind bore and the outer surface of the insert are knurled to prevent rotation of the insert. The tapering tangs of the tool are held in position in the handle at two axially spaced areas.
