    • A four-sided cutting insert has a top surface, a bottom surface, and a pair of first side surfaces connected to a pair of second side surfaces via corner surfaces. The cutting insert has a rotational axis of symmetry, a first axis extending along the first side surfaces and second axis extending along the second side surfaces. Opposite corners of the cutting insert are provided with a first pair of corner edges defined between a first edge and an associated second edge. Proximate its leading end, the first edge has a main portion which, in a top view of the insert, extends inwardly toward the first axis at a first angle. In a side view, the first edge slopes downwardly from the corner edge in the direction of the base surface. The associated second edge, in the top view of the insert, extends from the corner edge in an outward direction relative to the second axis.

    • The invention relates to an indexable drill for drilling a hole in a metal workpiece. The drill includes an elongated generally cylindrical body having a central longitudinal axis and a pair of cutting inserts. The body includes a tip end portion having first and second recessed pockets on generally diametrically opposite sides of the longitudinal axis. Each cutting insert is removably secured within a pocket and includes at least one cutting edge having an outer peripheral corner and an inner corner. The at least one cutting edge extends linearly from the outer peripheral corner to a curve extending convexly toward an inner region proximate the central longitudinal axis and then to a linear relief edge extending linearly from the inner region in a direction away from the longitudinal axis to the inner corner.

    • A cutting insert (1) for use in a milling cutter for a face milling has upper, lower and side surfaces and at least one pair of main and minor cutting edges (10, 11) formed by the intersection between the upper surface (5) and an adjacent side surface (7). The cutting edges (10, 11) merge via a cutting corner portion (12) of a relatively large radius, which is provided with a land (15) formed at the upper surface (5) of the insert. The land (15) is inclined to the insert lower surface at an inclination angle which continuously varies from a negative value at an area of the corner portion (12) adjacent the main cutting edge (10) to a positive value at an area of the corner portion (12) adjacent the minor cutting edge (11).
