    • A bending apparatus for bending a metal member includes at least one die, a punch disposed on an opposite side of the die through the metal member for pressurizing the metal member by relatively moving with respect to the die to perform bending, and a knock out die for supporting the metal member when the bending is performed. Friction generated on a surface of the knock out die for receiving the metal member becomes smaller continuously or gradually from a center portion toward side portions thereof in a bending ridge line direction.

    • A forming apparatus for shaping a long plate member (31), converts on initial cross-section into a final sectional configuration, e.g., into a U-shaped final sectional configuraiton. The forming apparatus has an upper die (32) and a lower die (33) defining a forming part with pressing surfaces which are movable toward each other for a pressing operation. The long plate member is appropriately fed into the forming part. A drive mechanism reciprocates the upper die (32). The forming part defined by the upper die (32) and by the lower die (33) includes an initial forming region which is located on an inlet for the long plate member. The initial forming region has a forming configuration corresponding to a flat sectional configuration. A final forming region located at an outlet for the long plate member has a forming configuration corresponding to a U-shaped sectional configuration. Intermediate forming regions located between the inlet and the outlet have regions, of sectional configurations that change continuously along a feed advance direction so that the forming configuration of the initial forming region approaches or merges into the forming configuration of the final forming region.

    • The invention relates to a machine for folding sheet metal blanks. For folding a sheet metal blank, there is provided at least one folding member having a folding surface and being driven by an eccenter to perform a reciprocating beat movement. The sheet metal blank is drawn into the gap between the folding member and a stationary anvil for folding. The folding member is pivotally mounted in a holder for ease of operation and to obtain a neat folding. So the folding member is adapted to adjust to the instantaneous resistance of deformation of the sheet metal blank. If a sheet metal blank is to be folded twice, a corresponding second folding member, which is also pivotally mounted in a holder, is disposed downstream of the first folding member.

    • A roll-forming machine includes a plurality of forming members which are mounted at spaced points on an elongate, rigid spine. This permits conversion of the machine from one roll-forming configuration to another by removing the spine and the rollforming members attached thereto and then installing a different spine-forming member assembly in the roll-forming machine. In one embodiment of the invention the forming members comprise nondriven material engaging rollers and the roll-forming machine further includes a plurality of roll-stands each comprising nonforming driving rollers for moving material through the rollforming machine. In another embodiment of the invention the forming members comprise combination driving and forming rollers and couplers are provided for forming driving connections to the rollers. In a third embodiment the rigid spine supports nondriven forming rollers and idler rollers which cooperate with driving rollers to move material through the roll-forming machine.
